That's the GM spec graphs of the 2 STS/SLS Northstars, L37 and LD8: 300hp/295 ft/lb and 275hp/300ft/lb.
Ok, Down to earth now. I use to drive big block Buicks that stock actually had 625 in TQ. This was the norm. I know better. These cars in stock trim will never equal that. I had big block chev's that were way killing, not to give up the FE ford experience that was under estimating HP & torque. The ford 428 FE had 600 easy HP Out of the box And could handle rpm spikes to 7000 including massive torque. Tell me I'm wrong. Its apple & oranges

Re: 300 HP is not what it used to be.

We know all about big blocks and brute power. That's not the question at hand. You stated that GM's Northstar claim of 600 ft/lb of torque in the below graph was incorrect. GM never claimed that figure. You didn't read the graph correctly.

For a NA 280 c.i. engine to come even remotely close to 600 ft/lb at 5500 would be revolutionary. GM accomplished exactly half of that figure, as shown in the graph. (A stock Northstar without rev limiter will hit just over 8,600 before the valves begin to float.)

Re: 300 HP is not what it used to be.

If a North* makes it to 8600 rpm once, feel very lucky. There are engines that will do this 100 times over in stock cars today. So I read the chart wrong. So what. The torque drops off huge big at 3500. End of story

Re: 300 HP is not what it used to be.

Wrong, Billy.........torque for both engines continues to increase until above 4,000, then begins a predictable slow decline to above 5,000. Lay a ruler on the graphs and plot out the curves. (Log on to CHRFAB and find out what they can twist their sand rail Northstars to in terms of RPM and torque curves........) There is no reason on earth that a properly prepared Northstar couldn't spin 10,500 RPM easily. Not in a daily driver: the engine.......

Re: 300 HP is not what it used to be.

New to this forum,i did purchase a 2000 sts mint condition. Regarding the HP issue the 300 horses put out by the Northstar engine is effortless and seamless at the same time. I was very impressed with the power once the RPM'S are ramped up near the 6000 rpm mark. For a big car it hauls without breaking a sweat.

Why even try to compare a caddy to anything else ,it's in it's own league!

The Bose stereo is worth the price of admission alone.

My first caddy ,not my last that's for sure.
I love it when tuner cars pull up alongside, thinking ,hoping, wishing they might outrun the STS ,It just does'nt happen.

Yes there is higher HP cars. But can they provide everything Caddillac offers? the straight answer is NO

Don't drink and rant.Your cars are drinking the same fuel you do to produce those claims. STOCK

Re: 300 HP is not what it used to be.

I'll get my 00 SLS dynod and post the chart on here as long with the video.

We'll see what a 00 SLS with 116,000 miles will pull to the wheels :-)
All I have done is a modified air box, E3 Platnium plugs, and an exhaust.

Red face Re: 300 HP is not what it used to be.

Maybe 235-245 HP @ the wheels. I'm being kind . What dyno are you using?

The mods tend to get upset when this happens, I was not trying to seem standoffish. If I was, I apologize, I only wanted to prevent you from a less than friendly chastising from a moderator.

Ok let me get this straight the post previous to mine was Dec 2 2008 ,mine was Dec 11 2008. Regardless when the post started it seems still current to me. If the MODS 'tend to get upset" i will gladly remove myself from this forum.

New to this forum already a gag order! Please....
