I'm not comparing old Cadillacs with new competitors. All I'm doing is agreeing with the original poster that 300 horsepower doesn't get you very far these days... And I'm also saying that Cadillac needs to keep on top of the performance aspect of luxury automobiles to stay in the game with their competitors... Even now! Where's our big luxury car that does 0-60 in under 6 seconds? Unless Cadillac doesn't want to compete in this category anymore...

Where were the BMW's and the rest in the late 90's when Eldo's were putting out 300+HP, stock, when it meant something? Just like sports, it is hard to compare era's and what matters than compared to what matters today.
But you know what you can't dispute from than and now????....A Cadillac still is the original and the standard. | Because BMWs back then still out speeded and handled our cars back then with less power. Now the bar has finally been lifted therefore they have to add power.
I have a Northstar powered 2005 Pontiac GXP and I love the car and the Northstar powerplant. |

Are you kidding??????? Would people buy a 2006 STS with 200hp for $45K vs. the 300+hp competition. I don't think so.
GM is follwing suit in the Horsepower wars.. they have to... it is simple supply and demand and the demand is for high HP wrapped in luxury and technology, hence why Cadillac offers the V versions among other engine choices. |

Dude, it's simple supply and demand, if all the other manufacturers are selling mid level luxury sedans with 330+ hp V8s, then thats the standard, and everyone else has to make them like that, otherwise they would fail to sell well. |

It just depends on how you package it.
0 to 60 in under 5 seconds, (some say 4.4 seconds) is fast enough for me
Of course I am referring to the lightest production car available in the good old USA, under 2,000 pounds.
As seen by the EPA ... 26.1 mpg city, 37.5 highway, 30.0 combined
As seen by any Cadillac owner ...
I am referring to the Lotus Elise. My 2001 Eldorado has more pounds of sound proofing than an Elite weighs in total! http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/elise.html now if they put a Cadillac badge on it! |

Hey guess what, Lotus is garbage. Hit one thing that fiberglass going ot break and your dead, especially with the 1" thick seats. When you rear end the ETC your going to be dead and Imma just need a new bumper and maybe some whiplash. Not to mention the comfort level, only chinese acrobacs can fit in there. I'm 5 10 150lbs and I have trouble getting into it. |

The Elise is a wonderful AutoX racer but NOT a comfortable daily driver by any means. A friend of mine has a 2005 that he drives every day and it is loud, jarring, and uncomfortable for every day use.. but come the weekend, he rules the AutoX and SCCA events like there is no tomorrow. |

Ruling SCCA, umm and what does he have done to that and what part of the country he racing?? I know guys with cars just as light as lotus with more than twice the horsepower racing in that league (in Michigain). |

I just seen your thing in Florida, is he racing at Moroso this weekend?? My grandpas team is racing down there, but they got jacked on the engine. Owner decided to have a "specialist" build it and ended up paying 13,000 for 600hp (slow as fuk in that league), especially since their old motor was running around 750. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
