Parking lamps/back up lamps/license plate lamps inoperative on a 98 Seville STS

I don't get it. All the bulbs are good. Whenever I turn on my regular headlamps or parking lamps, my whole parking lamp/back up lamp/rear license plate lamp housing doesn't work. I know all the bulbs are good because I remove the whole housing from the deck lid and changed them all lol.

What really doesn't make sense is when I unlock my doors (98 Seville STS model) and it's dark outside, you know how the back up lamps are supposed to come on and stay on for a couple seconds (with the high beam head lamps) and the parking lamps blink (with the front amber lamps)...well, the back up lamps don't come on at all, but the parking lamps blink like they should. Hmmm...strange! I know that I unhooked the 3rd brake lamp housing because about 30 something out of 48 of my LEDS were working. I did that because I decided that if they all weren't working, there's no point in keeping it hooked up. But that shouldn't affect the deck lid back up lamps/parking lamps/license plate lamps. At any rate, that's all I unhooked. I don't understand why the stupid deck lid housing lamps won't work like they should. Now, at night, my car looks like a De Ville from the back, with only the left and right 1/4 panel lights lit up lol. Somebody help me.

Could be a corroded or broken ground connection. Check the ground connection behind the trim panel directly in front of the tail lights. There is a ground block on both sides and the one on the right is a possible suspect.

Have you tried plugging the third brake light back in to see if it's needed to complete the system?

Solution to this problem is posted here
    http://caddyinfo.ipbhost.com/index.p...topic=8269&hl=

There is a ground wire in the trunk behind the carpet on the drivers side...
trace it from where it attaches to the body to where it is broken...

Bet your auto-dimming mirror is on the fritz too (it shares this ground)... interesting fact that the 3rd brake light has its own ground and if you were to plug it back in it will work...

On the attached picture #3 is the ground that you need to trace back to the break... according to BC6T expect the break near the trunk hinge... That's where it was on his '98

    Good Luck.
