    99 STS dead!

    Hi
    My first problem...
    1999 STS with 6CD/radio BOSE.
First on Sunday the volume controls stopped working.
CD and radio worked just could not change volume..on either Driver setting 1/2.
Today I tried to use the car and its completely dead..
    no nothing!

Is this related to the radio problem..
I have not tried to charge the battery yet..

    Thanks
    George

First step to diagnosis: Get the car started by jumping it, and then get into the on-board diagnostics mode and post back with whatever codes it throws at you.

Ok I'll get that done tomorrow..
Its OK to jump start or should I trickle charge the battery?

I'd check the battery out first. If it's old, it could be on it's way out. How old is it?

    Re: 99 STS dead!

according to my owner's manual the battery is under the back seat. I've never taken the seat out before. Guess I should do that one of these days, so I too, know how to do it.

    Re: 99 STS dead!

Well, I put in the NEW battery and everything works just Great..
Things never worked better..I guess the computer shuts down some features if the battery is failing!

Its like having a new car..for just $102.00

    Thanks
    to everyone..

Cool! What brand battery did you use? My 2000 STS (built in '99) still has it's original battery, but so far it's been running fine.

    Re: 99 STS dead!

    Hi,

None the the auto parts stores in my area carried the correct battery.
So I went to a Cadillac dealed and they stock the correct one, type 79.
with the vent fittings and the correct size 12" lenth. AC Delco Freedom.

I could have ordered one through interstate but it would take a week!
