88 eldo stuck (frozen) in park, need help please.

    Caddilac Crew,

My 1988 eldorado keeps sticking in park whenever it gets real cold out.

Sometimes i can warm up the car, spray wd40 on the center shift console and rock the car to get it going. sometimes it doesn't work.

Is there a way i can override or manually shift out from park?

    Thanks,

    Caddiman 88

I'm thinking the shift cable gets moisture inside it, it freezes and WD40 melts the ice. I would inspect the cable end that attaches to the shift arm. Maybe the hood cowl seal is allowing water? to drip on the cable? Also I would set the park brake before shifting into park. Sometimes the weight of the car on the little pin that locks the trans will be extra hard to pull out. Push down firmly on the park brake then shift into park. This is assuming the auto release is working.
