Cadillac's first attempt at a high end two seater (the Allante) was born from a shortened wheelbase Eldorado... I would only be fitting that the rebirth of the Eldo would be a stretched XLR.
But given the state of GM's finances these days I'm not holding my breath.. |

Why have a fixed top XLR when the convertible is already a retractable hardtop? Like elwesso said, it seems a bit pointless...
Rumors point to a two door CTS when the car is refreshed in 2008 though, so a Cadillac coupe is on it's way. |

The Eldorado and the Allanté were never in the same category. The Eldorado is a "personal car" whereas the XLR/Allanté is/was a Roadster.
The Eldo tries to be more practical than a roadster, while still only having two doors.
This XLR-based version would not be as tall as the STS-based version. I think it looks snarlier and kind of has the same "air" to it. I dunno about you guys but the 92-2002 Eldorado looked to me like it was smiling much in the same way the XLR smiles. This was the case with the Seville for the same years up until the final 2003/4 model. The new RWD version does not have that "smile" going on.
The smile consists of the front fascia, primarily the grille and the headlights.
The rear window is perpendicular to the road, dating back to the 1967 Eldorado. |

If they made a coupe out of the CTS, then it would be in a lower price segment (sans Premium V engine), and it would not be related to the Eldorado which traditionally was the epitome of personal luxury from the beginning. I guess it would be up against a G35 Coupe.

It doesnt seem as cubby as an Eldo looks to me. I agree it looks more slimming but i liked the kinda bulky look the Eldorado had. |

Originally Posted by 91TexasSeville Gee....an Eldo with framed side windows.....what will they think of next???? | it just appears that way, but it's not framed. the pic is actually photoshopped from my own Eldo, which does not have frames. But take a look at a 92-02 and you will see the exact same thing (because that's exactly what is photoshopped in there). It's the hard seal/seat for the frameless door window. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
