I know this has been beaten to death, but I need some opinions. I Just got back from the dealer, 99 STS $2500 for struts and strut mounts. I knew this day was comming b/c Ive had a 94 SLS and 96 SLS w/ the same problem. A buddie can get OEM struts ($425 ea.) and mounts ($80 ea.) for a total of $1060 for all parts needed (difference of about $1000 from Cadillac). A different buddie had the same job done on his 97 STS about a month ago. He had a small guy w/ a small shop do it w/ no probs so far. My question: Is strut work hard if you have the correct tools/facilities? (could I trust a small, back yard guy) And do you think Cadillac would do an allignment if they didnt put the struts in?

Re: Stupid Struts
The reason these struts are so pricey is because each one is electronic. As far as installation the should go in just the same as any other car. You just need the proper tools to do it.

Struts are not hard. You can have any alignment shop check the alignment after the struts are done.
Why wouldn't Caddy do an alignment??
