1994 STS Sputtering
My 1994 STS with 30,400 miles just started sputtering after start-up. It continues to sputter at lower speeds, but not too seriously. I ran the diagnostics and I have no codes, except for the ride control codes in history. Not sure if it's related, but I also notice a faint smell of gas after I park the car in my garage. Mechanic checked this out last fall but found nothing. Since I drive just a few miles to a commuter parking lot, I've been told it might be something unburnt in the catalytic converter. I've searched for info and I see where I may need new plugs and wires; I don't think they've ever been changed, at least not in the two years I've had the car, and my father in law (original owner) doesn't recall either.
So, other than the water bottle spray test to check for arcing,is there anything else that I could check before taking it to the shop? Could these symptoms point to the need for a throttle body cleaning? ERG valve? Thanks.

Re: 1994 STS Sputtering
Plugs and wires sound like a logical place to start, although they should last longer than 30K. Check the FPR for the gas smell.
