| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | 2002 NAVIGATION IN a 1998 Seville After buying a 2002 flip down factory DENSO navigation system with dvd map. I am left with a bitter sweet sensation. I really enjoy what functionality I have unlocked via dealer TechII, but I still need to connect the navigation or gps antenna. As a new member I am not allowed to contact other members or send pms, but I need help. I was reading through previous threads and found this one: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=50092 (Factory Navigation System for '02)
Ur7x talks about a connecting wire from head unit or nav to rear mounted antennas. This system has 2d and 3d function and is DVD based. I love it, but it won't contact any gps satellites because I don't have the antenna or don't know how to hook them up. Installed myself and dealer wipe and reset VIN. Any help is appreciated. Part numbers, etc.
Thanks,
Jake |

When you use the word factory do you mean this is a Stock GM Navigation System from a 2002 Seville?
I definately want DVD Navigation in my 98. but i don't want after market, i want it to match the interior. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Re: 2002 NAVIGATION IN a 1998 Seville You are correct. Completely factory, but I need to get the GPS connected. I emailed an ebay member and he said that GM part number 25731632 should fit the unit, but I need to know more about the antenna(s) location in the car, whether this part is a link to existing antennas in car or an actual antenna. Slightly confused, but once I am done it will be a very successful install and I can post how to do it since I find it very hard to find retrofit nav instructions. I JUST NEED ANTENNA INFORMATION. I appreciate anyones help. Thanks

1) There is a difference between the right way for the GPS Antenna and a way that works... The "right" place for it is on the rear parcel shelf... No wires there... good luck... BUT I have heard that simply taping it to the top of the radio with double sided tape will work. It is close enough to the dash and the antenna can see through the vinyl and the glass...
2) I am totally amazed and a little impressed that this works at all... The '02 and later systems interface with the cars Serial Bus... Does it talk to your cars CD stacker? Do you have one?
3) Where did you buy it? What Documentation did the dealer want?... I've heard horror stories about this too.. |

| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Re: 2002 NAVIGATION IN a 1998 Seville I have decided to order the antenna previously mentioned from gmpartsdirect.com and mount like you stated and like in CTS under the defrost light sesor of front dash. PS - Just figured out how to get the DVD to bypass and play going down the road w/ all controls. New task is the mic for the navigation voice activation. If anyone has any info please help. I am battling with the system a little day by day and searching non stop over the net.
MIC help with voice activation:
mic wire from unit?
any mic work?
possible mic in/ mic out?
Any help appreciated. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Re: 2002 NAVIGATION IN a 1998 Seville I'm not really interested in the GPS functions in the unit. I would rather use the unit solely for radio and DVD functions, especially while the vehicle is in motion (for DVD). I hate the sight of aftermarket DVD head units in 1998+ Sevilles. They look awful. The OEM DVD player for the 2002-2004 looks perfect for this car. |

| | Cadillac Owners Connoisseur Cadillac(s): 02 STS | | | | | Re: 2002 NAVIGATION IN a 1998 Seville I would love an update too!
Everything I have read says this definitely will not work with a '01 or older car as in these cars the stereo was wired directly to the stacker in the console in '02 and later cars they talk to the CD stacker over the serial bus.
Apparently everything I have read has been wrong. (Wouldn't be the first time LOL).
I've also read the dealer are really reluctant to reprogram these things..
Hows about an update on my questions:
2) Does it talk to your cars CD stacker? Do you have one?
and
3) Where did you buy it? What Documentation did the dealer want?...
Congrats on your progress! |

Still waiting on GPS antenna that I ordered, but I do have DVD and radio functioning while in motion. You must enter diagnostic code 1791 by hitting sound button above volume for 3 secs then entering code and press return, dvd works while driving. Awesome for my ski trip I just got back from. My friends love it. Bought from ebay, but you need to have prior vehicle identification for dealer. ALSO dealer said that they REPROGRAMMED radio to think it was a 2002. PAID DEALER $107+tax. Well spent in my opinion. NO 6 DISK, but I want one. 1998 SLS with NAVI and 49k, can't beat it. |

I wanted a Nav unit and xm radio but all of the units that I've seen look like garbage and would clash with my interior | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
