ECL(ELC?) Fuse

Remove this ad
Just bought a 97 Seville STS and I was checking the fuses in the trunk and I noticed that there wasn't one in the slot for the ECL/ELC (forgot what it was exactly). Any reason why this would be missing? Was the original owner trying to accomplish something by removing it if he did?

Re: ECL(ELC?) Fuse

ELC = Electronic Level Control. He probably pulled the fuse because of a bad compressor, exhaust valve or leaking shock or line that cause the ELC compressor to run continiously.

Re: ECL(ELC?) Fuse

So if the fuse was out, then the compressor wouldn't have run at all right? When I turned the key without starting the engine I could hear it build up pressure for a few seconds then turn off...and that was with the fuse out. I'd assume if there was a leak someplace and the compressor was running continously I'd be able to hear that constantly right? I've since put the fuse back in and I haven't heard anything different, does the same thing. Anything else I should check out to try and figure out what's going on? Thanks so far Ranger.

Re: ECL(ELC?) Fuse

If that fuse blew, it would set a DTC. So check the codes. If there aren't any (even in history) I would just take that fuse out because it's probably not needed in that slot.

Re: ECL(ELC?) Fuse

Hmmm . Runs with no fuse. Obviously that is not for the ELC. I agree with Krashed. Leave it out if it ain't causing any problems.

Re: ECL(ELC?) Fuse

No codes at all for it. I'm just wondering WTF it was/is for. o_O Obviously it isn't for the compressor, or at least the only one for the compressor. I double checked the fuse diagram, and it definately says "ELC" for that slot so could that fuse be controlling something else relating to ELC possibly? Or maybe was it originally intended for the ELC compressor then they ended up wiring that through something else? I'm just curious, my first thought is if there is a place labeled for a fuse, and one's not there, then something isn't getting power, as if something broken was trying to be hid.
