Rear End Humming

I have a 97 Seville STS, I noticed that when I just turn the key to turn the electrical system on without starting the engine, a few seconds will pass then I'll start to hear a little hum from my rear end that lasts a few seconds and goes away...only does it in this particular circumstance. My first thought was its just a fuel pump, but I was poking around here and saw some posts regarding something about a ride level control thingy of some sort? Never really saw a definitive answer and figured I'd ask, anyone know?

Its the ride control shocks in the back leveling out the car. Mine does this too, its just harder to hear once the motor is started.

Re: Rear End Humming

So is this something that's normal or does that mean something is seeing its last days and will need to be replaced soon?

If it in fact is the ride control, on mine it lasts anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds. If it lasts more than 30, Id say there is a problem.

Just turn up the radio!
Like Playdrv4me says, you may be developing a leak or something if it takes too long.

Re: Rear End Humming

yea its the air ride control its 100% normal. upon turning the key it engages the pump to check for leaks in the lines, if it lasts longer than 5-10 seconds then you either have a leak or maybe one of the lines has come off
