I just had this done to my car at the dealer. There is an updated part and a TSB on this issue. I will post the TSB number once I get home.

Re: water in trunk

I installed the new seal today. I got it at my local dealer. The price was close to gmpartsdirect.com and I got it the next morning. The seal seems to be the same as the one that was on the car except it sits a little higher. I used to just click the trunk closed. Now, I have to use a little more effort to close.

I put a bead of sealer around the outside of the seal where it meets the black plastic trim on the sides of the trunk. I also sealed just about every place I thought water could enter.

It's going to take forever to dry out the floor trim. The insulation holds water like a sponge.

Hopefully your new seal will not leak. When I installed mine, I put adhesive along the entire length of the mounting flange. None of it is visible, as the seal covers it up. The water seems to get between the seal and the flange, and then into the trunk. As far as the trunk carpet. I had mine drip drying in my basement for four days, next to the water heater and furnace. Every day, twice a day, I would wring it out the best I could. It was still damp when I reinstalled it. What a PITA that was.

Re: water in trunk

Thanks for the help with the part number. I filled the groove on the seal before pressing it in place. What a messy job. I've been squeezing the padding and working it with a hair dryer. I'll wait.

Re: water in trunk

I have a little water in mine also, the antenna has a drain tube on it that was draining the water into the the spare compartment but it looks like it is coming from the the seal by the trunk pull down, I didn't think water would travel in from here, have you guys heard of water coming in from there?

Re: water in trunk

I took all my carpet out, feels like there is a big spot on the passenger side right below the hinge.. Common in a Eldo?

Re: water in trunk

Had a couple of rain storms and my trunk is bone dry.

But....now I found a little leak under the passenger side dash. Ther was a little bit of water on the carpet and I could feel wet if I put my had under the dash. There was a little puddle in the trash container hanging on the kick panel. It was fresh water (didn't smell like coolant) so I assume it's from a rain leak.

Are there any common things to check/seal that is known?

Thanks

How did you cure your trunk leak?
What was your problem, seal?

Re: water in trunk

I replaced the seal and used black RTV to seal the seams where the trim pieces and mouldings meet. The new seal seems to sit a little higher and seal to the trunk lid better.

Re: water in trunk

Trim where the rear window lower mouldings meet. There are plastic fillers in the channels around the trunk opening.
