Question Installing an Auxiliary Port into a '98 Eldorado

Hi guys. I'm pretty inept when it comes to cars in general, so bear with me. I have a '98 Eldorado with a BOSE sound system. I want to install an aux port into the radio so I can play music. How do I go about doing this? I tried to find DIY guides on here but all the images for step-by-step instructions are broken.

    Any help would be appreciated!

I'd prefer auxiliary since it's much better quality. I don't really want to hear static and stuff.

IF you have some SERIOUS soldering/electronics skills -
our resident electronics engineer N*Caddy -
posted a How To - probably in the TechTips forum -
    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ent-steps.html

or - you might find something in the AUDIO forum -
    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...urity-systems/

another thought is that your car is pre-wired
for the 12 disc CD changer - in the trunk -

you might find an adapter that will use this plug -

How do I find out whether or not my car is pre-wired? Where would I find it in the trunk?

I found the red and black wires in the trunk. Two long cords. So now I know it's pre-wired. What do I do?

Those are NOT what you are looking for, someone added those. Tape em up so don't spark out.
You are looking for a harness with connector on the end.

They were previously taped up. Tape must have come off. If this isn't it, what am I looking for? I'm sorry, I'm so lost.

don't know what that IS -

but it is NOT the CD player plug -

you are looking for a fairly large PLUG -
with a whole bunch of wires -
probably all wrapped up with plastic - or tape -

it is shoved up - hidden - and out of the way -
    usually near the antenna -

that IS the correct looking plug -

there also MIGHT be another plug -
    that LOOKS the same -
but was used for a remote phone -

if that's the ONLY plug you find -
    that's the right one -

so - now you need to do some on-line searching -

using terms like Cadillac CD player to aux adapter -

Thanks! I've attempted to research a step-by-step guide on how to install the aux input, but my searches come up pretty bare. That's why I've posted here; I'd hoped someone could curate some info and instructions for me as my online search skills aren't good enough to find out how to do this myself. Now that I know my car is capable of having an AUX input installed, just having the instructions now is the last step.

I think this is what you are looking for.

Connects the PXDP, PXDX interface to the CD changer cable in the rear of the vehicle. Converts factory CD changer input to a universal audio input.

Re: Installing an Auxiliary Port into a '98 Eldorado

I also have a 98 Eldo with the CD changer in the trunk and bought an adapter from Sonic Electronics to connect my IPod 5th Gen Video to the car in place of the changer. The adapter allows you to use the steering wheel controls to control the Ipod. You connect the adapter to the harness using a GM pigtail which you also need to get and it comes with a long USB cable you can run from the trunk to the front to connect your Ipod.

Thanks to an idea from Consigliori, I mounted mine in the ash tray and made a docking station using an Ipod dock extender I got on ebay. Here's the post in the forum which has NCaddy's info on building the Aux Input and Consigliori's details about using the adapter and the dock he made.

You can also send me a private message and I can tell you what I did and purchased..

    Thanks,

    Jim
