    Drove a '92 STS today...

The one I drove was at a Caddy dealer about a 2 hour drive away. White Diamond with beechwood interior. I'll be honest--it was a bit of let down when I saw it in person. The interior needs a good cleaning with a Mr. Clean sponge, a lot of leatherique and a couple times over with a carpet cleaner. There was some rust starting to form under the front lip of the hood and rear trunk, sun baked parcel shelf, A/C didn't work and only 1 speaker on the Bose stereo worked and apparently there was still a CD stuck in the CD player.

BUT...I really was kind of impressed by how it drove. I mean, I liked it. A lot. Under the grime, it looked expensive in there. It also appeared like the seats were pretty much all leather, which was very surprising. Dirty carpet aside, it was good carpet nonetheless. The struts had been redone at some point (127K on the odo) so it rode nicely...comfortably firm-ish. It felt kind of expensive.

The room factor was great. While my Fleetwood and STS achieve legroom by tilting the sh*t out of the seat, this felt like my old '06 Grand Prix...PLENTY of fore/aft travel without having to tilt the seat much. The moonroof/ceiling didn't rub my head. So it was the perfect size and a good fit (I'm 6'5"...fit can be an issue). The 4.9L ran well and the tranny shifted smooth though there appeared to be some minor oil leaks. So the best parts were the mechanical bits and suspension and that certainly counts for something. While a good detailing can only help the interior, it can't fix the substantially cracked leather up front, cracked wood finish, some sun-baked trim and the beginnings of rust. At least not for the $3249 they're asking (and they're not touching the A/C they said). I don't think I want this particular one but I think I do want one. And if I find the right one, I think I'd sell the Fleetwood and STS for it.

They're ~$2,200 too high at that price. I'd be surprised if they paid more than $500 for the trade.

    You are generous
I came out 2349 to high on the price.
And I would have to like the colors to even offer that.

I told the sales guy that given the wear and tear issues along with the rust that it's not a $3200 car and if I were to make an offer, I would have a tough time even going up to $2500. But I do really like the '92s...first time I drove one. If I had driven a '92 at the time I bought my '91, I might not have bought my '91.

Spot just left of center on the hood is a rust bubble. Note leather cracks. The pile of the parcel shelf just crumbled when my finger touched it. Top of the backseat was cardboad hard. Like I said though it drove very well but unfortunately the rest was kinda clapped out.

    ----------

@amunderdog...it's gotta be an STS. There was one in NC for $1800 that had a much cleaner interior. I'm not afraid to drive somewhere...Maxi wagon was from Denver and STS was from Cedar Rapids.

Re: Drove a '92 STS today...

    That Carolina one looks ok.
There used to be some Cadillac nuts on this forum from NC.
Maybe one of them could look at it for you.
There are some appraisal services also.

If you are willing to travel and pay 3k for one.
You are looking for a pristine low mileage car.
It may take some time, but one will turn up.
For that kind of money it should be real close to perfect.
