HEY like ya know - there is this thing called SPELL CHECK -
it like makes your post like a lot easier to like - ya know - read - ya know -

Hey can any one let me know y the sls and sts r slow
the Seville is a 4000 pound family sedan -

the trans is geared to give spirited acceleration -
    yet reasonable fuel economy -

where the hp and tq measured by the cam shaft or the wheels
the respective 275 or 300 HP ratings are measured at the CRANKSHAFT -

there is at least a 50 to 75 HP power loss at the wheels -

    -----------------

so - I like hope that I like answered your questions
    to like your satisfaction -

Completely unrelated question to this year+ old thread. Please feel free to start your own thread next time.

    SLS - 275HP, 300 FT-LBS of torque.

    STS - 300HP, 295 FT-LBS of torque.

The SLS also has a different final drive ratio, geared toward MPG, not performance.

An STS will get to 60 MPH in 6.5 seconds. Not bad for a 4,000 pound luxury car with a 4 speed automatic.

Power cannot be measured at the camshaft. It's measured either at the crankshaft, or at the wheels. The 275/300HP figures are at the crankshaft. An STS loses about 80HP by the time the power makes it to the wheels.

Re: 2002 SLS horsepower and torque ratings ?

New thread started. willmccown, Please do not hijack threads, especially dead ones that have no relation to your question/problem.

For the inquiring mind - and there are more speed/rpm/dyno graphs in my albums.

..................and, for a 4,000# family sedan the DTS/STS (FWD) series of cars are NOT "slow".

The DTS/STS has a 3.71:1 final drive so it will be faster off the line (engine already higher up in the rpm curve) and reach maximum speed at any point - quicker than the base/DHS/SLS with its 3.11:1 economy final drive.

PLEASE get off the cell phone and type some sort of rudimentary English.

Are you trying to race the SLS on a track or something? Why the interest in making it faster? If your intentions were to race it you my friend have the wrong car...

And as far as the joke...I definitely got it

You've got the wrong car bud. Why don't you sell it to a good home where someone will appreciate it for what it is - A superbly comfortable 4000 pound Luxury SEDAN and go buy yourself something you can play with. O' I don't know, maybe an old '90's 4 banger Honda Civic... You can paint it what ever color your want with spray paint, put goofy rims on it, cold air intake, and shoot, you can take the compressor and condenser out while your at it. I also hear that makes cars go FAST too. Might even wanna put some go faster stickers on your back window. That adds at least 15hp at the wheels................

Re: 2002 SLS horsepower and torque ratings ?

will, The SLS is not, will not, can not be a "fast" car, regardless of how many seats or other weights you remove. It uses a 275 hp economy cammed engine turning a 3.11:1 economy (cruise) final drive transmission. Even the so-called "performance" STS version is only marginally "faster", and that all depends on the day, the time, the tires, the temperature, the road, the driver - blah, blah, blah.

You can make it look or sound "fast" with weird wheels or a pair of mufflers - but the real go-fast aftermarket goodie support for these cars is slim and none.

The 4 speed auto transmission uses the 1.00:1 3rd gear as the direct drive, 4th is OD at 0.68:1. The torque converter incorporates a viscous clutch (Torque Converter Clutch) that engages at road cruise loads at over 43 mph to give a slight rpm reduction with the accompanying small fuel mileage increase - AT CRUISE ONLY: Accelerate or touch the brake pedal and TCC drops out.

Keep the SLS stock, clean, well maintained and use it to trailer the tricky Fox Mustang to the dragstrip....... You then have elegant AND fast.
