First thing to understand about "premium" gas is that it's no better, it's just different. Higher octane fuels are just more resistant to igniting under the heat of compression. No extra hydrocarbons, no extra power. Your car will run perfectly fine on 87 octane. If you're going to race or tow with the car, use 91 octane for optimal engine operation. But there will be no noticeable difference in performance.

Just run top tier 87 (Google top tier fuel).

if I was going to buy a V, it would be a second or third gen CTS-V.

If the STS-V had a better looking interior, and/or was available as a manual, if prefer that.

I don't really like the XLR.

A Monte Carlo is a WHOLE other world.

You'll figure out what you really want as you get older. Just drive the SLS for now and enjoy it.

Re: 2002 SLS horsepower and torque ratings ?

    This whole thread.....

    ----------

I'll add to it anyway, The SLS is not a hot rod where its gonna go any faster. If you want real power out of these motors expect to pay a ton of money. There's a Turbo set up on YouTube and i believe the price thrown out there was $16K? As much as you might wanna get more power your just not gonna. I'm trying to build my car into a one of a kind type deal almost a STS clone if you want to call it that. But i know deep down all its making is 275hp and i wont be winning much races with that. These cars are heavy front wheel drive luxury cars and will never be a Impala SS or a Ford SHO so keep that in mind. But for what they are... They are amazing cars. If you want something to hot rod out get a Camaro or Trans Am, Mustang something like that.

Re: 2002 SLS horsepower and torque ratings ?

will, read through this site to see what can be done with various Northstar engines in other installations. Somewhere in the site is the disclaimer that CHRfab does NOT make or sell parts for Northstars in GM/Cadillac automobiles, so forget the "Why not ?" questions.

    http://chrfab.com/

You might also search the Engines, Northstar forum for some custom Northstar work by speedygman. He builds them for old (mid 30s) Ford body custom cars. Beautiful work. Yes, you can get over 400 hp out of a NA Northstar with standalone engine management.

Here - scroll down through this entire thread (several pages) and eat your heart out .............BTW - he's almost 73 now.

.............. because they do not make/modify Northstar parts that can be used to modify stock Northstar System car installations. Their engine parts and stand-alone management systems are built for special purposes - sand rails, kit car engines, engines for "hot rod" classic car conversions - nothing for our FWD Seville/Deville/Eldorado cars.

Ohhhh just asking because I don't have the money but what if you bought one and said you were puting it in a sand rail and then put it in our cars ? What bad things would happen to the car ?
