1991 Seville issues I just cant figure out.

I just bought a 1991 Seville with 84000 miles on it. When I bought it it lugged, chugged, however you want to describe it. I have changed the egr solenoid, entire distributor. Done all of the fuel injectors. What it does now. When I start it, it may run perfect or it may be off. Example: I start it this afternoon and its running great, drive 20 minutes, not problems, then all of a sudden, something will happen, and it starts chugging, it knocks a bit from the low end, O2 sensor values are all off, idle goes all screwy. Or, It could start out running crappy and then all of a sudden something happens and it starts running great.
It needs to be stated that this car, when it is running correctly, runs perfectly, no knock, no nothing. The car does not overheat either way. I pulled the egr valve to make sure the passages are clean.
To me it has to be a sensor that is telling the car an incorrect value. When it is running incorrectly, the only values that are really off are the idle and the O2 sensors. Fuel etc, seems to stay in specs. You just never know what you are going to get and how long its going to last. Cat not clogged, I have good acceleration either way. Timing was extremely hard to set, wandering because the car was in the running crummy mode when I set it after doing the distributor. It is something that is making the computer screw up, but what?? Thanks a ton for your time~!

Given the age and low mileage, I would locate all the engine grounds , remove them and clean them first. I would also do a load test on both the alternator and battery.

I agree, could be a few things at least. I would check your fuel pressure.

In addition to all of the above, have you pulled the DTC?s?

It has no codes. Sometimes it runs like a top, other times it chugs and knocks and runs like garbage. No rhyme or reason. I think they were trying to hunt this problem down before me, lots of vacuum hoses look new. I know the engine was out at some point because they worked on the transmission. The one thing I am thinking about is when I replaced the distributor, I had to transfer the old connectors to the new one, I would like to replace those, but not sure where to buy them.

Check Rockauto. They have a lot of electrical connectors.

Sounds exactly the same as when my 92 Seville computer went bad.

Post one reads just like our 94 when the distributor timing was off.
It lugged and chugged and did some knocking.

If I purchase a computer from an auto parts store and switch the prom over, is it then plug and play or does it need to be reprogrammed for my car??
