    96 Eldorado trans issues

Hello, I recently bought a 96 Eldorado for 200 dollars knowing it had trans issues. I have the same ole problem most everybody else has with the car not upshifting into O/D the car will not travel faster than 40 mph and if you stay on the fuel the rpm's go up but not speed. I bought the shift solenoids from Cadillac for 84 dollars and had a dealer install for 188.40. One solenoid was broken but the car still wont go above 40. Traction control light is on as well. All other gears work and fluid is clean and full. Any Ideas? Thanks everyone.

The car shifts into OD around 45 mph at cruising speeds. The dealer would be the one to shed light on the defects. The traction light is a related problem, it can and will limit performance although may or may not be related to the trans. You say "dealer" is this a GM or Cadillac dealer? You need a proper diagnostics check and you can do this your self right on the dash board sitting in the driver seat. the car will tell you everything, no other equipment needed. Look at the sticky on the top of the seville/eldo forum page and stick your nose to the screen. It will give you current & history defect codes and then find the definitions and then get back and folks here can help you sort things out.

Also, it was not a GM dealer that installed the solenoids, it was the only thing available.. Suzuki. Please dont laugh, it was my best option. LOL

    No OD=broken/burnt OD band.
    Not "may be" either.
A bad or broken solenoid will always & only result in the loss of 2(two) gears.
