Lightbulb Engine swap on 99 Seville

    Hi guys!

Unfortunately my original Northstar has been corupted. One of pistons (number 7) is busted, can you even imagine, there is a hole in it!
Anyway now I'm trying to find a "new one" (engine) to replace it, but here is a problem, it's really hard to find it in Europe, particulary in Latvia,
that why I came here, just to hear your opinion. I've found 2000 Cadillac STS engine and here is a question: Can I put 2000 Cadillac STS's Northstar "9" 305 hp engine
into my car (1999 Cadillac SLS, where was Northstar "Y" with 275 hp).

    Thanks,
    and waiting for response!

    Aivars.

    P.S. Sorry for my english!

No, that won't work. Maybe this will help.

    P.S.
How in the world did you put a hole in the piston?

    P.P.S.
    Your English is fine.

Re: Engine swap on 99 Caddy Seville

    Thanks for a link)

Something like that (http://www.forzano.com/index.4.jpg) But a little bit smaller))

At next week I'll make a photo and post it for you)

I can't even imagine how it can be possible -_- But there isn't my fault (my driving style is about 2000 rpm, not a lot, don't you think so? ), because I've bought that car just a few months ago (January 31th, 2014) and unfortunately I didn't check an engine for oil burning(((
Now I've got a "little" nightmare. Of course it isn't a really big money for americans, but in Latvia 1800 euros it is 2 or 3 months salaries))) At the moment it is a cheapest way how to repair my car)

STS engine was cheaper by 600 euros, that why I was asking)))

    Thanks, MoistCabbage!

But I already knew that)) Here is my phrase: "Can I put 2000 Cadillac STS's Northstar "9" 305 hp engine
into my car (1999 Cadillac SLS, where was Northstar "Y" with 279 hp)."

Good luck on the roads and with your Caddy!

Of course it isn't a Northstar, I just placed this link for an example. My piston's "hole" is a little bit smaller

P.S. My mechanic will arrive at this friday and I gonna post some photos)

    And what about Kevin's story?

    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...998-sls-2.html

Hello to all! Well it has been a couple of months since I had my STS motor swapped out with a SLS motor...and this is what I know: The motor that came out of my 1998 STS was swapped with a 2000 SLS motor. The 2000 SLS heads was TimeSerted, new head bolts
He had swapped '98 motor with a '00... and it's working aaand how can this be possible?

I believe that was a typing mistake -

if you notice in the entire thread -
only post #23 said the replacement motor was a 2000 -
ALL the other threads were comparing the differences
between the 1998 STS and 1998 SLS motor/trans

but - if YOU want to TRY - go for it -

be sure to keep us posted on your progress -

anything is possible, people put 350 small blocks into mini coopers, will it take serious modifications?: YES , specially if you are in Europe, and stuff is already expensive. its not worth the time and effort to put that engine in.

    From the Northstar swap sticky:

"1993-1999 and 2000+. You CANNOT under any circumstances bolt a 2000+ engine into a 99 or older body or vice-versa. It simply does not work. Too many differences, too many sensors changed and the holes to mount them. Many people have tried, and gone through all of the work to bolt it in and realize that 1) some things don't bolt up correctly, 2) the wiring won't connect and 3) it won't run."

I believe it can only be done with a complete drivetrain swap including harnesses.

That^, like i said is it possible? probably, does anyone want to go through that much trouble remodelling the entire engine compartment and redoing everything so that it would work? not a chance, who knows how many man hours that would take for what, the same engine but the updated version... not worth it.
