04 Seville - Hood Lift Support - Recommendations Please

My hood lifts are shot. Shopping around, brands encountered were AC Delco, W.A.S., SACHS, and A.M.S. Other than AC Delco, I have no experience with the other brands mentioned.

Any recommendations on a replacement would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Probably all made by the same Chinese company. I just replaced the two on one of the trucks caps rear windows - got 'em from Western Auto - work just fine. No idea of brand (it's raining like snot here)

Talk to Chris in parts at Rippy Cadillac over there >>>>>

One of mine quit recently too. I'm staying with AC Delco.

I remember my mothers '85 Plymouth Reliant wagon needing them replaced in the early-mid '90's. I doubt the replacements were OEM, they failed shortly after installation.

I installed aftermarket ones in my grandfathers '95 Caprice wagon, they failed pretty quickly too, and while they did work, the glass never really lifted smoothly/correctly.

Junkyard or any auto parts store.I think autozone has them for $20 a piece. Don't like autozone but for this part you should be ok.

It might also be worth checking out GM Parts Online, I came across them when I was searching for a release cable.

Certainly, there are great deals to be had. In fact, that is where I plan to buy synthetic Mobil 1 oil.

I replaced the ones in our eldorado with the $20/each that autozone had and can't complain. Also used the same brand to do the trunk supports for my convertible (about 2 years ago) and they still work like brand new.

Walmart is where I try to buy most of my basic maint. stuff:
    oil
    filters
    antifreeze
    refrigerant

never get there super tech brand but they do have the best prices for most things, $10 cheaper than parts stores for the oil I usually get.

For things like this (motor oil, filters, wiper blades, grease, light bulbs...) you can go with Walmart, especially you guys in US where the selection is much broader than here in Canada, the heck I saw Wallmart even carries AcDeclo stuff in US.

Don't overlook SuperTech oil. I've used it for many years and if you do a little research you'll find it is rather highly rated.

Just installed Sachs for '92 Fleetwood a couple weeks ago and they don't lift the hood quite as much as the old pair...opens maybe an inch +/- lower. But at least they hold it up now.

If I am not mistaken, Walmart's SuperTech synthetic oil is made by Penzoil-Quaker State--->Shell. Last I walked down Walmart's motor oil aisle, a 5qt jug of ST was approx. $18.

Not certain if Walmart sells hood lift supports; however, I will take a look.

Napa full synthetic is running $3.49 a quart right now till the end of April - made by Ashland same company making Valvoline. Just a heads up for people looking for a motor oil deal not trying to hijack the thread too much
