Looking for a 2003 STS. What about the condition should I not tolerate?

I would say rust is the number one top of the list reason to not buy a particular car. One that has been involved in an accident per Cafax should be a close second.

How about one that had like 5 previous owners and shows interior wear on the leather?

I don't care too much about mileage as long as it's cared for. They all seem to have the dash pad warped up by the defroster vents.

I'm still looking for a black on black with the factory nav and XM. Blue Onyx would be a close second.

What in the codition of a used Seville will steer you away from it and what is acceptable?

That question depends on the depth of one's wallet and the limits of one's desire to own a 2003 Seville Seville Touring Sedan.

The NAV is slow, inaccurate, and I don't believe there are updated map discs for it. A Garmin Nuvi is more accurate, faster, and dirt cheap. XM is good for sonic wallpaper.

I would say mileage is a concern, personally anything over 140,000 I would walk. Also if the interior is in bad shape, torn leather etc I would not consider as this is one sure sign the car has not been cared for properly. Yes, prevoius accidents, not good, rust, not good. Take your time and try to find a nice one with service documentation if possible. They are out there, have patience, do your homework and don't jump on the first one you see just to get one.

rust is the number one top of the list
    I agree -

One that has been involved in an accident per Cafax
    should be a close second

every time I see someone mention carfax I laugh -

carfax IS good at documenting title changes -

everything else - service - accidents etc
is reported to carfax on a strictly VOLUNTARY BASIS -

a car could be $1 short of being totaled -
and come up with a clean carfax -

5 previous owners and shows interior wear on the leather?
multiple owners is ALWAYS a concern -

low miles and interior wear tells me LOTS of short trips -
    rather than "highway miles" -

I don't care too much about mileage as long as it's cared for
lots of stuff starts wearing fast at that magic 100,000 mile mark -

I'm still looking for a black on black with the factory nav and XM.
I would actually AVOID a car with the nav unit -

My DHS has the BOSE XM radio -
the first 6 months - or maybe year was free -
    I think I used it once -

in addition to the obvious -
    look at the tires -
if they are el-cheapos - you must wonder
    what else was replaced with the cheapest-possible......brakes - fluids - belts/hoses -
or stuff that SHOULD have been done - ignored -

Re: Looking for a 2003 STS. What about the condition should I not tolerate?

I would look for the one with the lowest mileage and only one to maybe two owners. I would be looking for a Southern, best would Florida car. If you must have a black on black, the you will have to make other compromises. For me, being rust free and low mileage, one owner from Florida would be the only way to go for a ten year old Seville STS or any other Cadillac.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Why is a car with nav to be avoided? The one I sold had nav with no issues. It's basically a nice radio, nothing more. I use my iPhone for navigation.

The nav is more of a glamour look at me I have all the options thing than anything else (which is why I added it to mine)..... If you live in a big city that has constant road changes it's useless but smaller areas it's ok

the actual nav unit is slow -
maps are SEVERAL years old -
and doesn't offer the features a Garmin hand-held does -
I don't like the looks of it -

Any signs of or previous reports of overheating or coolant usage or cooling system work would be a red flag to me.

Is it expensive to reupolhster the seats in an STS with the OEM leather?

Probably quite costly - if you can find 11 year old upholstery sitting on some dealer's shelf.

Talk to Chris in parts at Rippy Cadillac tomorrow morning, EDT - over there >>>>

If you are considering the expense of reupholstering a Seville's seating in OEM leather, you might be much better off looking far and wide for 2003 STS that is both low mileage and in immaculate condition .... Florida is your friend!

    BTSOM

Might try calling a few upholstery shops and see what they tell you.
