    Oil leak(s)...........

My 91 ETC has an oil leak... Little worse than an occasional drip but not so severe. Its enough that pinpointing where from is a bit difficult since the engine is dirty with oil ...possibly from more than one location. Hard to clean off the engine since she is in the garage for the winter. Wondering if there are some common leak areas on the 4.9 that develop.(65k miles) Knowing that i can at least let my mechanic know and have the mess get cleaned up on his floor

The only common leak point I remember is off of the lip of the trans pan after the oil inevitably drips down when you change that ridiculously designed oil filter adapter.

a good way to help locate a leak on a greasy motor -
is to add a special dye that glows under black-light to the engine oil -

Ranger.... Yes ridiculous it is! Most cars i had previously, I would fill the new oil filter , when doing a change, with new oil before installing....no such luck doing so on the 4.9 .. Thx basscatt ..perhaps the best way to find it.
