2002 Eldo - door lights, radio seek lights & programming snafu

I just purchased a 2002 Eldo ETC last night.
I want to get everything fully functional & programmed the way I like it.
    Here are my questions:

    1. Both doors light do not turn on when the door is open @ night. What do I need to do fix this?
    2. The scan button on the LL side of radio does not light @ night. What do I need do to fix this?
    3. The car will not go into program mode - DIC is cleared, both trip reset & info reset pressed together. Door lock in Gear does not appear in DIC. How is this resolved?
    4. While breaking I am feeling a pulsation – it this normal? Do you recommend GM rotors & pads if needed? What type of aftermarket rotors & pads do you recommend that are less expensive & better than the factory?

    Thanks!

IMG_0828A.jpg Also no light for these controls. Heck, my 66 convertible Vette has almost as good interior lighting! Thanks! Andy

I'd say check the bulbs, but I think those are just reflectors.

    2. The scan button on the LL side of radio does not light @ night. What do I need do to fix this?
Disassemble the HU and do some tedious soldering to replace the tiny bulbs. Or pay someone to do it. There are many stereo repair shops you can shop it to.

The car will not go into program mode - DIC is cleared, both trip reset & info reset pressed together. Door lock in Gear does not appear in DIC. How is this resolved?
Holding the DIC buttons down gets you into diagnostics. Driver programming is done by scrolling to feature programming, and pressing one of the other DIC buttons. I can't remember ATM. It's all in your owners manual.

    4. While breaking I am feeling a pulsation – it this normal? Do you recommend GM rotors & pads if needed? What type of aftermarket rotors & pads do you recommend that are less expensive & better than the factory?
No, pulsation is not normal. Several hard brake applications from highway speeds to ~20MPH, with a few miles of driving to cool the rotors, should burn off any pad material that may have built up on the rotors.

AC Delco brake parts are just fine. "Less expensive" and "better than factory" almost never go together. There are a number of companies that make premium aftermarket brake parts.

    MoistCabbage - thanks for helping!
    I made some headway:
I got the programming completed for both remotes - done
Reflectors in door instead of lights - not to cool - still an issue?
Should the mirror switches & window switches light up? They do not. - still an issue?
I am Ok w/ the stock rotors & pads if brakes are required.

    Thanks!

The doors have reflectors NOT lights.
For the HU lights see this:

The window switches have 2 orange lights on each button and the area of the switches is illuminated from above by a small bulb underneath the door handle.

I think so, but open it up and see if there is a micro lamp inside.

I looked & did not see a small bulb underneath the door handle.
It seems odd that both doors have not lights.
Is there a fuse for this circuit?

    Thanks for helping!
    Awesome website!

I'm sure there is a fuse, but I would suspect it is the same one for most, if not all interior lighting.

You won't see the bulb, is behind the door handle trim and is illuminating a transparent plastic tucked in a slot facing down above the window switches. At least it is in the Gen IV Seville (4 door version of Eldorado), but after careful investigation (I haven't yet checked the schematics), based on the below pictures Eldorado doesn't have the lights (I am very surprised):
    Eldorado:

    Seville:

I do not see the slot in the Eldorado trim...

As for the amber lights in the buttons:

See the small semi-transparent windows on the top of the buttons? That's where the amber lights will shine (pretty dim).

Re: 2002 Eldo - door lights, radio seek lights & programming snafu

I have confirmed that all window switches have the LED.
Now I just need to get them working.
Can you remove the switch w/o removing the entire door panel?
Any help removing the switch is welcome.

    Thanks!
    Andy

Usually the switch just pries out, but I'm not sure if you start with the front or rear on your car. I would start (cautiously) with the rear.

Re: 2002 Eldo - door lights, radio seek lights & programming snafu

    ^^^^ Exactly.

You actually need to remove the switch first in order to remove the door panel.
Something tells me you should not start with the switch.

Does the light in the passenger side switch works?

If no, then is highly unlikely the issue is in both switches in the same time.

Both switches have the same issue - LED not working.
The overhead garage door switches & sun roof do not light up as well.
Where do I go from here?

    Thanks!

Re: 2002 Eldo - door lights, radio seek lights & programming snafu

The garage door and sunroof switches have no lights inside.
Also the window switches have a small light bulb inside not an LED.

Ok I had a look in the FSM (what I call the "good book") and here is what I see:
    1. Indeed Eldorado does not have what is called "Courtesy lamps", the little lights inside the door handle frame illuminating the area of the window switches.
    2. The interior lamps in the Eldorado are strictly for the 2 window switches and nothing else.

The IPC pin A4 in the C2 connector powers the lights.
The IPC powers 2 separate circuits: the one for the window switched and the one for the headlamp switch. Although it shows as internally being wired together in the IPC, it actually comes out on 2 separate pins on 2 different connectors (C2 and C3).
I don't remember (or never paid attention) if the headlamp switch back light behaves differently than the door switches, I know the headlamp switch light does turn on when other dash lights are off, not sure what is the status of the window switches...
The above circuits are what is called INC DIM-2.
There is also a INC DIM 1 circuit dealing with all the other lights (IPC, climate control, HU, heated switches, INFO module, PRND321, rear HVAC controls, steering wheel controls - with an additional fuse protection in between IPC and clock spring).

All these lights are controlled by the IPC firmware based on the position of the headlamp switch, dimmer and the ambient light sensor signal.

INC DIM-2 circuit (the one of your interest) should operate when:
    1. Interior light switch is active
    2. Parking lamps are ON and the ambient light sensor indicates darkness (cover the light sensor with a can or cloth to test).
    3. Ignition switch is in RUN and the ambient light sensor indicates darkness
    4. PZM sent a message on the data line indicating the courtesy lamps are active.

    What to check:
    1. Wiring from IPC pin A4 in the C2 connector (brown wire circuit 1244) all the way to the door window switches.
    2. Ground to the door window switches.
    3. Cluster fuse (trunk electronics bay), RLY IGN 1 fuse and IGN0 - BODY fuse.
