CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

Remove this ad
I have a 1999 Seville STS.

Today was the 1st time this code set and every time I reset it, it comes back as CURRENT and the DIC reads: Service Suspension System

The above message is very annoying. I wish it would go away already lol.

Does anyone know what the problem may be and is the car safe to drive???
Does it limit my speed and due to the code, is my car starting in 2nd gear now?
Does it have anything to do with the RF struts or RF wheel speed sensor???
Is it an easy fix or is the stealership going to charge me $20 parts and $2000 labor to fix lol?

Note: There are no other codes but the recurrent AMPLIFIER code: AMP A1064

Re: CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

It's the right front position sensor. I broke the cables for the front left sensor about a month ago, I drove it for a week like that before I was able to get it fixed.

Re: CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

I bought my car with a service suspension light on and the problem was a wheel sensor. I was told it would not harm the car if it was driven with the light on by Cadillac. I think it was about 300 installed at the dealer. It is pretty simple to change only 2 screws holding it on, you have to remove the wheel though. If it is the wheel sensor I would replace myself and save about a bill. You can get the sensor at gmpartsdirect.

SevilleSTS:
Don't pay too much attention for RF position sensor code. The worst thing is it will just set suspension in a firm mode, that's all. So, don't worry and don't rush to spent money. Yes, the message is annoing but you can take your time. If problem is intermittent the best way is to wait until it became more constant.

Re: CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

If I remember correctly from when I replaced mine it was something like $50-$55 for the part. And the fact its easy to replace id would just drop the $50 and replace it to get rid of that annoying message.

B1344 has to do with the "driver air mix actuator". It controls which vents the air blows to for HVAC on the driver's side. Unless you actually have cold or warm air blowing from the wrong vents, it's nothing to worry about. I've been getting B1344 off and on as long as I've owned the car. One of these days i'll try one from a bone yard, but no bone yards near me.

Pardon the thread jack...

The position sensors for the C176x codes are about $90 from www.gmotors.com, I think. I've had to replace two of them, very easy to do.

Re: CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

How hard is the installation of the C1761 code? I just recently recieved this code, and really scared the hell outta me. I remembered that if the back struts go out it s a $3500 repair bill...

How hard is the installation of this part? Can a newbie like me handle it on my own? I know this thing (meaning my car) has more computers than a freaking F-14 Tomcat lol...

If you can jack a car up and take a wheel off you can handle replacing the sensor, here's a picture, i think this is the left side of the car even:

its the unit on the right side of the picture, silver arm thing with a circle, and then a black ball at the end that has a shaft (you can barely see) that attaches to the the lower control arm(?) it honestly takes 30 minutes. is only one or two small bolts.

Re: CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

Sevilles have front struts (MacPherson struts) with coil springs and rear shock absorbers with an air boot and coil springs attached to a suspension control arm for level control.

Both ACDelco rear shocks, CVRSS, from RockAuto, are just shy of $1200.

Re: CURRENT CODE: RSS C1761 RF Position Sensor Input Fault on 1999 Seville STS

Hi, is there any chance that somebody would have the actual part number for the part needed for this error code "DTC C1762 LR Position Sensor Input Fault"? I have read almost every post that has been posted and am not able to find the part number. I know where it is and what it looks like on the car. I have a 1999 Cadillac STS vin #9. I do have the service suspension sys. error also. Thank you in advance and I love this Cadillac forum. Randy
