1998 ETC sunroof just starting to act up

Today I went to vent the sunroof and it made a stripping kind of noise up to tilt and also when going back to closed. Also the sunroof will not slide back more than an inch and get stuck sounds like the motor is straining. Hope it might be related to the drivers window switch that gets glitch every so often. 39k on car and everything just works fine on the car. Any ideas, help me out.

Nothing to do with the window switches.

    Is this a factory sunroof?

When it's closed, does the rubber seal look even with the roof all the way around?

Thanks for you response. It is factory sunroof on this vinyl top car, big too. It seals fine but little rip in the rubber that would leak on rear seats until I put electrical tape to temp seal that area. I now park down hill when possible.

Does the seal look even with the steel of the roof?

Well I can slightly push down on the rear side about maybe 1/8 of a inch.

Can you push the glass up and down slightly from the inside? If so, the mounting screws may be loose. There're 2 on each side. Open the sun shade and look in at each side of the track.

When you set the sunroof glass height - using the 4 mentioned Torx screws - the proper spec is flush with the roofline on the front edge, rear edge flush to 0.5mm high.

Those 4 adjustment/retainer screws should be checked for tightness every 6 months, more frequently on a sun belt car.

My glass is tight and In alignment. But I do not have four screws but I have three Philips style screws along the font edge.

Also lately the sunroof closed or vent or tilt position makes a flapping noise, just to throw that in there. The rubber gasket is sealing and seems fine.

Most concerned about the sunroof mechanically

We know you're concerned about the sunroof mechanically. If it's not in alignment, or it's loose, that can cause it to bind and cause your symptoms.

3 screws along the front? Are you sure it's a factory sunroof? The switch matches the one in the owners manual?

Yes same switch as manual. The sunroof is not loose in any way that I can see. It may be the cold weather but that stripping noise when going up or down in tilt is loud. I dunno, if you have any ideas I'd appreciate it.

I'll do another inspection in the garage later this afternoon.

Yes the switch and operating instructions are the same in the manual and my car.

Got a hold of my Cadillac mechanic and says that the motor is located between the visors and that is where the sounds are coming from. Stripping noise and motor fading out noise us right there. this will be first step. Find out in spring I guess. Anyone have that sunroof motor? For sale?
