    97 ETC fuel rail issue....

Can I fix the hose between cylinder 5 and 7 injectors with super glue and electrical tape? I have called 3 different part stores only to find out that "we don't carry that item". Its hard for me to believe they don't, but what am I to do?!?!?!?

You must have the plastic lines that were recalled. Very dangerous to attempt a patch job. Don't mess with it unless you can fix properly or prepare for engine fire. Get a stainless set from a salvage yard.
Its not carried by autoparts store BTW.

DO NOT attempt a patch. You're literally playing with fire. That fuel rail was recalled by GM. As far as I know, recall do not expire as they are safety related. I could be wrong, but I'd take it to a Cadillac dealer and see if they will honor the recall and replace that rail for free. Otherwise follow rodnok's advice and hit the Men's Mall.

YEP - NO patch possible or desired.

Junkyard, GM dealer recall fulfillment, or maybe one of the online GM parts dealers - www.gmpartsgiant.com , for one. Nalley ?

Tomorrow, talk to Chris in parts at Rippy Cadillac over there >>>>

or maybe Luke in parts at Lindsay Cadillac over there >>>

........... and both are up in the Vendor Forums

So I have just replaced all lines with rubber fuel hose and hose clamps. Worked perfect for a minimal amount of money.

I hope you used Fuel Inj hose and clamps, not the cheap one's. Still should have found the correct one, not saying it will leak but my monye is on it will.

Drive alone and never tell your insurance company. As posted, you are playing with fire.

NOTHING in what you have done is rated for your engine fuel injection line pressures - 41 to 47 psi, running.

    Re: 1998 STS Fuel Rail

I had a similar problem. I replaced mine with rubber fuel hose and hose clamps. I don't trust my baby with any money grubbing dealership!

Moderator edit: This post plus 3 others moved from earlier thread on the same subject, started by a different member. Now all the problems with THIS fuel rail are in one place.

As in your other identical post - You're playing with fire. None of the "rebuild" components you listed are rated for the 41 - 47 psi fuel injection service pressures in your car. Always drive alone and don't tell your insurance company.

GM made a BIG mistake on the original rails, issued a recall, and now you duplicate the mistake with inferior components.

That's great but did you use the proper clamps? Fuel hose clamps do not cut into the hose, most coolant hose type clamps do. With the drier fuel now used, hoses dry out quicker and can leak eventually. If you dont trust the dealership, just buy the metal rails and do it yourself.

Re: 97 ETC fuel rail issue....

Just call the dealer and read them your VIN number. Recalls do not expire! If your's falls within the VIN spread of the recall, they will be glad to fix it. Fuel hose clamps are specific to their use. They are designed to not cut into the hose. Some people call them "EURO" clamps. The newer fuels are very dry and WILL cause premature failure of the hose even with proper clamps. I have purchased 2 cars that were totaled because of an underhood fire. I replaced the hoses and clamps, and spark plug wires damaged in the light fire that occurred because there was no metal line repair available. Believe me, the hoses will fail again!

This is the result of an Eldo with a leaky fuel rail.

Go to the nearest junkyard, there are AT LEAST 2-3 Devilles in there and minimum one had the SS line. I mean is a $20 repair in 45 minutes on the driveway. That in case the recall is not honored by dealer (mine wasn't). I have personally seen a '96 Eldorado burnt because of the fuel line.
Mine was not to far when I did it 7 years ago.

    Re: 1998 STS Fuel Rail

Yes GM makes SS fuel lines for your car, are the same as the one used for the '95-'97 recall. For $20 you can find one at your local junkyard (look for Devilles mostly).
