    1997 STS problems.

Hi, I have a cadillac sts 1997. My trunk button doesn't work, nor does my gas tank button that's on the dash work. What could be thr problem? also, I changed my car spark plugs but not the wires, Also Does it matter what brand of wires I use?. Please help. I'd truly appreciate cadillac enthusiast. Also how much would you say 1997 cadillac sts is worth in excellent condition with 185 thousand miles on it?

To answer your last question, we sold our last 1992 green STS (same body, different motor) with 192,000 miles on it for $1300.00. My brother put a sign on it in KS, left it in his driveway before he was even ready to put it out somewhere for sale, and his phone would not stop ringing. So assuming it's not riddled with problems or rust, on paper it's worth 1200-1500.00 easily, even at nearly 200k. Ultimately, it's worth what someone is willing to pay.

Trunk and fuel door buttons = Valet switch in the glove box.

www.kbb.com for pricing and be honest on condition.

If you want the "best" plug wires go with the AC Delco set ($100 +/-) from RockAuto. Use this to get the correct plug connected to the correct coil tower.

    My trunk button doesn't work,
nor does my gas tank button that's on the dash work

make sure the VALET switch in the glove box is OFF -
then check all the fuses -

I changed my car spark plugs but not the wires,
Also Does it matter what brand of wires I use

    absolutely -
I HOPE you used ACDelco plugs -
and I recommend ACDelco wires -

Also how much would you say 1997 cadillac sts is worth

no car on the planet with 185K miles on it is in EXCELLENT CONDITION -

but - assuming EXCELLENT condition - for a car with 185K miles -
with great paint - no rust - no dents - descent interior - descent tires -
no mechanical issues - $800 to maybe $1200 - DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE

    ask yourself this -
if YOU were looking for a used car -
what would YOU pay for this one - HONESTLY -

If it is actually in excellent condition, meaning most parts have been replaced and it's mechanically sound with NOTHING wrong with it I would say $2,000-$3,000 tops.

    Here's what excellent means;

Looks new and is in excellent mechanical condition
Has never had any paint touch-ups and/or bodywork
    Does not need reconditioning
The engine compartment is clean and free of leaks
    Is free of rust
The body and interior are free of wear or visible defects
    Wheels are flawless
All tires match and are like new
Has a clean title history and will pass a safety and smog inspection
Has complete and verifiable service records

Most used cars come no where near this condition so I doubt a 16 year old car could be unless its been garaged its entire life and meticulously cared for by one seriously anal owner.

You're probably looking at more like $1,500.

A 97 with 185k miles and original headgaskets, fuel pump, shock absorbers, transmission? Can you say all these old parts are in excellent condition just because they work?

I bad heating element more than likely. Does the seat make a clicking sound every 30s or so? Thought this thing was in excellent condition?

    Re: 1997 STS problems.

One or both heating elements are broken. Several How-To fix it threads in Cadillac Tech Tips. Disassemble the seat, find the breaks, solder in jumper wires.

    - or - check the heated seat module connectors under the seat.

Google "cadillac forums seville heated seat repair" or something close.

The seat pad heater diagraqm is the new replacements in the field - NOT the originals
