Cool 99 STS head gasket blues

Remove this ad
turns out the coolant in cylinder and miss when first started is what i thought it was, leaking head gaskets, the est. is 1700.00 at our local GM dealer which turned out to be less than the indipendant mechs. wanted. I dont think they really wanted the job. We have only put 3000 miles on the vehicle so I dont Know what happened to it to cause this problem. the car has 67000 miles on it other wise it is spotless and like new. This engine must have some type of aluminum engine head gasket hassle man !!!! Good thing I like the car and it has kick ass bose!! Cant wait to get it back .

Re: 99 STS head gasket blues

$1700 is really cheap. Are they Timeserting the block for that money? If they aren't, insist on them doing ALL 20 holes, even if you have to pay extra or you may be back for a repeat performance in the future.

Re: 99 STS head gasket blues

Get a warranty...I will never own a caddy without a warranty again...gaskets went in my old eldorado 72k miles..so i traded that baby in to an unknowing caddy dealership for a newer sls, WITH A WARRANTY.Lol. Thye lost $4k on me...told me about it later but it was too late. Love the new one tho, lol.

Re: 99 STS head gasket blues

My 99 did the same thing. And I would have fixed it but I found a 2000 with lower miles and better shape.

Re: 99 STS head gasket blues

Is it just me but it seems like most head gasket issues are on the 98-99 Northstar Engines ?

Re: 99 STS head gasket blues

Based on a quick review I did... 98-2000. Not scientific or anything of course. Yes, Im aware the design changed in 2000.
