Codes for 99 Seville. ABS + tracton control lights coming on.
My wife has a 99 Seville SLS just turned 57000 miles. The ABS and traction control lights have started coming on at the same time. How do I retrive the codes for this car? Anyone have the same problems? Thanks Ben

This may also be a problem with electrical interference in the LEFT FRONT wheel speed sensor. There was a GM TSB about it. My '99 Deville suffered from it for almost as long as I owned it, and I never bugged the dealer enough to have them fix it. I wouldn't be suprised if the Seville has the same problem. If the lights come on when you pull away from a stop, and go out if you shut down and restart, that's probably what it is....

2 potential problems:
Front wheel bearing - Possibly the right one.
The ignition switch.
I lost a right front bearing at around 50k mi. This was causing the lights to come on.
The other odd problem was the ignition switch. There are several contacts in this switch, including the class 2 data, which make conection when the car is started and while it is in the on position. Over time, the contacts become worn due to arching, etc. These poor connections create a situation where modules cannot communicate, because there is a bad/no connection over the class 2 as it passes through the ignition switch. The problem was intermittent, which was even more frustrating.
Even though my car was throwing codes that may have led one to believe that one or more modules were bad, it was simply the ignition switch. I tore the old switch open and there were more than a dozen contacts in the switch, that were operated by a cam mechanism.
I bought a new switch online through gmpartsdirect.com for about $50 and installed it myself.

I'm also having very similar problems with my 2000 sts. All kinds of strange electrical glitches started happening a couple months ago. And as the weeks go by I seem to be getting more and more little issues...
I'm thinking it might be my battery. Because after I drive it for long enough (30 minutes strait) I hear chimes and most of the warning lights go off and I regain the use of most, if not all, of the features that were malfunctioning.
Anyways, I really hope its a battery issue... Otherwise my wallet is going to be screwed!
Anyways I hope its the battery...

Most likely either a weak battery or a bad cable (poor connection or corrosion). Either will cause all sorts of electrical gremlins.

There are a LOT of potential causes for the TCS and ABS lights to come on. Take the codes, so you are not shooting in the dark here. If there is ONE problem with either system the computer will shut both of them off. This is because those two systems work in tandem with eachother. Heck, you could have just blown the fuse.

One other thing I remember happening was that I had no compass display, on the mirror, whenever this problem occurred. Not that this points to anything specific, but for what it's worth.
