My car still keeps overheating on me agter driving only about 15 miles.. Thr temp goes up n down as im driving. Can someone help me ouy here??? Also would there be a problem if i remove the thermpstat being that therea no heater core right now!??
I just bought a eldorado etc that Idled hot. The thermostat was missing. Replaced the thermostat. Idle ran good but when i kept RPM at 2000 it got too hot. So next thing I changed was water pump. The original made slight noise. It seems the problem is fixed. I let fans turn on, kept engine cool. Then i kept RPM at 2800 and it didnt even reach 3/4 temperature.

    1. thermostat
    2. waterpump
    3. radiator
    4. Head-gasket :/

Water pump is extremely ez to change on northstar engine ez access. Part cost as high as $45 autozone will rent you special water pump removal for $30. Hope you dont have head gasket.

A noisy water pump will not cause overheating. Neither will a leaking one, until the coolant level gets low.

    SpawnX, ??? Welcome Aboard !!!!

You might want to go to the Engines; Northstar forum and read the stickys on head gaskets, cooling system operation, fan controls and gauge indications.

Matter of fact, read the stickys in every thread of interest as well as the entire Cadillac Technical Archive way up ^^^ in the top black bar. More Northstar cooling and oil system info.

AZ will loan you the tool for free. Just pay for it and get a full refund when you return it.

Where would water be leaking from if the water pump was busted? I noticed the water leak coming from fmiddle of my car towards the front.

The water pump itself can only leak from the shaft seal. It would be dripping from behind the pump pulley.

    ---------------------
probably a split tank on the radiator -

    like I suggested in post #12 -
you need to PRESSURE-TEST the cooling system -
then find and fix the leak -

Middle front might be the radiator, but that can be deceiving. Coolant can drip onto the lower air deflector and run to the center before it drips.

Sure, but they're meaningless without definitions.

    Go here:
    http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/

And copy a d paste the code definitions into this thread.

OH - well - in THAT case -
    go here for code definitions
    http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/dtccode.html

once you have the definitions - post them here -
and it would be helpful to know if the codes are Current or History -

but I can assure you that none of them have anything to do with an external coolant leak -
