    .....Ready for the next episode?

I was just sitting at a red light, BANG!!!!!

No, I didn't get hit, my back window shattered. Nothing hit it, it just...exploded. The tint is holding it together.

Just in time too, 10 inches of snow tonight. I'm guessing the tint isn't THAT strong.

Oh, and to replace it, the carriage roof has to be removed, the entire shell. Which means the cloth has to be peeled off... Which means it'll have to be replaced.....

    Re: More of my "luck"...

Here is a funny thing that happened to me on -5*F tonight as I was leaving the office.
Went to the car (that I just replaced yesterday the starter solenoid) and tried to unlock the doors with the remote. I could hear a weak click from the locks but just weak.
Tried to unlock with the key, yeah right...key was not getting in past 1/3 (both sides).
I end up going back to the office kitchen get a kettle with progressively warmer water and eventually 4-5 gallons later pouring over the lock side of the door I got the key at least to insert all the way in and eventually it turned.
Driver's door was unlocked but still attached to the weather-strip. A little bit more warm water and I got it to open.
Eventually I managed to get the rear doors to open too, but so far the passenger front door is still stuck.

What happened last night, once I finished the starter job I went to the car wash to get the salt off from the Detroit trip. Over night in the garage it is warm enough not to freeze but cold enough to stay wet. Today I parked the (wet) car in the office parking lot @ -5*F and that's what happens.

Called the insurance company... "Yes, the roof removal and fabric replacement is covered".

The shop doesn't work directly with insurance companies... "Ok, just get a written estimate and call us back".

    Ok.

Got a written estimate, $2,200 including the glass replacement, which was $870 (the shop has a glass company that they work with).

I call the insurance company back, tell him it's $1,330 for the roof work. He puts me on hold for less than 30 seconds, comes back and asks where I got the estimate, because they've never had anyone charge more than $350 and that's all they'll approve..... First off, does he want me to believe that he looked up EVERY rear glass replacement they've ever paid for in 25 seconds? Secondly, $350? That's a joke. The fabric has to be removed entirely, the fiberglass shell removed and cleaned/prepped on both sides, then everything has to be reinstalled. It's an all day job. The fact that my fabric will have to be replaced adds $500 in materials (it's an embroidered diamond pattern and is more expensive than the standard fabric). Having to replace the fabric is common on "older" cars. He pulled the figure out of his a$$.

But regardless, I had to set up an appointment to have an adjuster come out. I asked what the adjuster would be adjusting, seeing as the company isn't working with the insurance company, and he didn't have an answer.....

If there's a problem, I know what I'll do. I'll ask of I can choose the shop that replaces the glass (which I already know I can). When they say yes, I'll say "Ok, I want Professional Glass to replace it." (the one that works with the upholstery shop) "They use this upholstery shop to do the roof work. This is what it costs, he doesn't have a say in their pricing. That's my choice".

Oh yeah, almost forgot... Got home, parked, looked back at the car... The lower door molding on the right front is missing..... SERIOUSLY WTH!!!!!
