92 Eldo brake job caliper C clamp size...

What size C clamp do I need to compress the piston on the front caliper? And for future reference, I assume the rear caliper would be the same, correct?
    Thanks.

You need a big one, though I'm not sure of the exact size. This should give you an idea.

The rears are different. They screw in. You need a brake piston cube.

You know, I've never used a C clamp ever. I jamb a large flat head screw driver between the pad and rotor and slowly pry the pad back. Then I remove the caliper. Yes you will need the cube! on the rears.

Thanks for the info. I read 9" clamp from an unreliable source. Guess I'll opt for that and grab a cube for future use.

    9" sounds about right.

    like carnut - I too - never used a C-clamp -
I always used the big flat-blade screwdriver to "start" retracting the piston -
then finished it with a large channel-lock pliers -

Thanks. How long should it take to retract the piston? I know to open the brake fluid reservoir. It's a slow process but I read it should take 15 - 20 minutes. That does sound excessive.

Assuming the reservoir is not full, I just pry till it bottoms out in the caliper. Maybe 30 seconds. I never open anything.

Are you talking about the front or rear? The rears with that cube will take a bit longer, but not 15-20 min.

    P.S.
The rears are easier if you open the bleeder valve.

30 seconds would be a long time to compress the fronts.

Okay. Thanks. When I do the rears though (not for a long time), I can do it without opening the bleeder valve? Maybe that's what I read where it took a long time, especially with the cube. I'll be doing this in my small garage so I'd like to keep it as simple as possible.

Re: 92 Eldo brake job caliper C clamp size...

Yeah, you do not have to open the bleeder. The cube tends to slip off the piston and you are pushing fluid all the way back through the entire length of brake pipe so it makes it a bit harder. Just one of those tricks to keep in mind should you need it.
