    2000 Eldorado.....35w or 50w 3000K HID Fog light bulbs

    Hi all......

I'm hoping someone can help me with this question.
I am replacing my original 886 50W fog light bulbs on my 2000 Eldorado with an 3000K HID kit.
Can I use a 50W ballast since the OEM 886 bulb is 50W, or should I use a 35W ballast and play it safe ?
I am concerned that the 50W kit might melt the wiring harness along with fog light plastic lens, since the new kit is basically a plug & play system and I am using them with the OEM housings.
    Any help would be appreciated.....thanks.

Do you realize how much glare you're going to be causing for the drivers around you, and that using HIDs in housings that aren't designed for them is illegal?

.....If you're still going to do it, 35 watt.

Feel like I just got scolded for my post...lol
I'm not trying to hurt other drivers.....nor do anything illegal by any means.
It was just an innocent question....but I appreciate the slap on the back of the hand.
I live in a country area with no street lights for miles and need all the light I could get especailly in the winter and bad weather.

Or, instead of converting the fogs to HID (where the fog lens simply scatters light on the ground out to 25 feet in front of the car: fog lamp), simply change the lamps over to a pair of rectangular Hella 1,000,000 candlepower driving lamps and wire the fog lamp switch to a larger 30A relay. Those puppies will illuminate a stop sign a mile away !

In the STS I use PIAA 4100K Intense White headlamp bulbs (9006 & 9005) and 4000K Extreme White+ fog bulbs (880) - I live near and drive in a huge, rural farm area and have never felt that I was "overdriving" that lamp setup. BUT, nothing will save us from a stupid deer in rut - and that's just around the corner.

Re: 2000 Eldorado.....35w or 50w 3000K HID Fog light bulbs

Fog lights AT MOST 35W and 3000K color. Be aware though is illegal.
Piaa are great halogen light bulbs, I mean really great, more expensive than a HID setup (balasts and bulbs), and unfortunately last that I know make no 886 (what you need for your car).
886 bulbs are the most powerful fog lights that I am aware of (at 50W). Sure you can use one of the equivalent bulbs (same socket lesser wattage).
Also 886 because are really not used allot are difficult to find in quality brans, your best bet if Sylvania.

    Have a look HERE.

I believe 880 and 886 (the same like 881, 827....) are the same socket just that 880 are straight and 886 are 90*, should fit in the bucket and connector (again not sure), but 880 are I believe 27W (and yes 880 comes in PIAA).
