B112 - A/C Low Side Temperature Circuit Problem [A/C Clutch]

    Hello -

I just got a 1988 Eldorado from Ebay. When the car starts, the DIC displays "A/C Sensor Fault". I followed the procedure to display the codes, and the only current one is "B112 ......................... A/C Low Side Temperature Circuit Problem [A/C Clutch]".

Can someone help me figure out what this means? I understand from the previous owner that the compressor has been replaced recently and that there is a sensor that is bad. Any ideas?

When I search the forum, most of the results contain a list of all codes, I just need to address this specific one. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Robert

I believe there are two freon temperature sensors - thermistors -
one near the orifice tube - low side -
and one near the compressor - high side -

the one near the orifice tube gets destroyed
if the orifice tube is put in backwards -
or the wrong - longer - orifice tube is installed -
    --------------------

there was also an issue about getting this error on systems that were converted -
    from the original R12 - to 134A -

    there were two "tricks" -

one was to use the BLUE - Ford orifice tube -

the other was to install a 2k resistor on the low side thermistor - temp sensor -

Thank you for your reply. This is all way over my head so I will have to bring it in somewhere to have it looked it. I was hoping I could just switch out some sensor. Hopefully it will not cost too much!

it is also WAY OVER THE HEADS of MOST shops -

where ever you take - ASK IN ADVANCE -
if they ever converted old Cadillacs from R12 to 134a -

    if they answer YES -
ask them if they know about the resistor for the freon temp sensor -

I say this because MOST shops DO NOT -
and will not be able to get your AC to work -
and still try to charge you for their time spent -

From what I understand it is still R12. I think the previous owner said that it was converted to R134, but then converted back to R12..I'm not sure why that would have happened, but I think I also read somewhere that these Cadillac's can not be converted to R134 because the sensors do not work.
