    Sputtering 4.9

Before i ring my mechanic.... Wondering if anyone here can help. 1991 ETC 4.9 ..Mild Sputtering on acceleration. Seems to have a rich mix also but wondering if thats the ECM adjusting for a lean condition. 65k miles, Otherwise running fine. Any common place to start looking? (vacuum leak etc.) .....cleaned out the throttle body already. Car was off road a long time too. Thanks!

    Have you pulled the codes?

No codes related to engine management, Just the active suspension sensors. Plugs and wires as well as cap replaced and a fuel filter recently

'91's don't have active suspension, just ELC (Electronic Level Control).

I would check the catalytic converter. The FPR might be worth checking, but that shouldn't cause problems when accelerating.

Start by checking the wiring to the distributor, and the connections to the ICM inside the distributor. If that checks out, have the ICM tested.

I know Devilles, Fleetwoods and Allantes had it, I didn't think Sevilles/Eldorados had it.

    Re: Sputtering 4.9

So i got as far as getting the dist. cap off before the "crew" here decided my day would be spent elsewhere. Just got a chance to sit and research and was just wondering if maybe i shouldn`t even bother testing ICM since its a less than $20 part and just replace anyway since the car is 22 yrs old. For that matter , I also wonder if i should just replace Hall Effect Sensor while im there....although the HES is more costly. No loose wires, everything looks good otherwise so i dont know what else can be sending the E012 no distributor signal trouble code and causing the sputtering. I am only assuming that trouble code is why the car is not running as good as it should be.
