Stereo Help.... GM Delco Bose Gold series

I have a 1991 ETC with GM Delco Bose Gold series stereo unit.... The stereo gets power and displays but makes a high pitched noise with static also which does not change no matter action i take with the tuner or cassette. I would like to keep this in the car in an attempt to keep car original as long as a repair is cheap. Anyone know what it could be?

Sounds like the amps have several capactors out... If your hand you can replace them your self otherwise repair is $80 a amp with lifetime warrenty, which is very fair imo.

..I had a thought since i had a hard time locating amps for each speaker. Is it possible to wire the original stereo to an external amp and then wire the speakers to the amp,....bypassing the speaker mounted amps?

Nope, no aftermarket amp will be compatible with the Bose speakers...Either you replace the factory amps or you replace the factory speakers for use with an aftermarket amp...And in that case you'd need to get some type of OEM integration unit, such as the AudioControl LC2i...

Re: Stereo Help.... GM Delco Bose Gold series

Having a problem with my radio (1994 SLS). Have symtoms analyzed to following:

When I start to car the radio goes on like normal, however as soon as the computer starts to go through its process it turns off. Then it will turn on and off at random times for random lengths of time. Sometime it will not go on at all, other times it will go on shortly after car starts but still generally goes on and off with occasional on for some time. The turn on like normal until the computer starts it initial process it what really gets me.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this.

I bought an aftermarket JVC unit.... I dont want to fix the stock speaker amps.. I notice i can by pass the amps on the rear speakers. Can i just connect my JVC stereo to them? What about door panel speakers.... If i by pass those, will it work? ..Or do i need to put after market speakers?

With an aftermarket radio, you can disconnect the small amps bolted to the speakers, and wire the outputs of the new radio directly to the speaker terminals.

Re: Stereo Help.... GM Delco Bose Gold series

And you'll probably lose some power output doing it that way as the OEM amps/speakers are low impedance. Aftermarket HU's are almost always 4Ohms, the OEM amps are 2 Ohms or less, I believe my 2001 Bose system was rated at something like .75 Ohms. So sure, you can do that, will it sound any better, nope, probably worse.

Re: Stereo Help.... GM Delco Bose Gold series

Thanks curtc ! ..Here is what i did so far but not getting any audio quality : I simply disconnected the rear speaker amps by the connector, This leaves the speaker connections intact..Just not passing thru the amps. That was the rear speakers. So i try it and get no sound whatsoever..Then i just quickly reconnect the amps and i get sound from the speakers...But lousy. I have the front stock door panel speakers still connected. Do i need to disconnect or bypass those? I am thinking perhaps they are affecting the rears by being in the same circuit? (Hope that makes sense)
