    1992 Eldorado suspension questions

I also have a 92 Eldorado touring coupe and the service suspension system message is present. The car has 55K miles and the suspension is all stock is there something i should check? Is this a common issue with these? Tried to search forum but seemed like everything was about replacing the air system with a standard or modified suspensions. Thanks.

Re: resistor shocks for 92 eldorado

So I tried to pull the codes and I got code I039 Loss of Road Sensing Suspension data and it will not bring up RSS as one of the systems to check I am guessing because of the loss of the data in the ECM. Any ideas on how to get the RSS to talk to the system or what i might look for?

    Re: 1992 Eldorado suspension questions

Sorry to bumb this thread back to the top. Does anyone have any ideas on why the RSS is not supplying the data to the computer? The suspension appears to be functioning, i hear the compressor kick on ocasionally and it is sitting where I would think it is supposed to.

    Re: 1992 Eldorado suspension questions

the RSS has electronics in each of the struts/shocks that vary the ride from soft to firm -

I suspect this part of the struts/shocks are no longer functioning -

yes - the physical dampening can still function -
it simply remains at "medium" setting -
rather than varying from soft to firm -

and yes - the rear level control can also function correctly -
in that it will properly maintain correct ride height -
regardless of the weight in the back seat or trunk -

NO - you can not replace the electronics within the struts/shocks -

to eliminate the message on the display -
there is a method of adding a relay to satisfy - and fool the system -
it doesn't "fix" anything - it only keeps the warning message from displaying -

you should be able to find information on that in the suspension forum -

    Re: 1992 Eldorado suspension questions

Thanks basscatt, i appreciate the info. I am no expert but if it was just the actual struts/shocks electronics not furnctioning wouldnt 1.) be unlikely that all of them would be affected to the point that it is not sending any info to the computer. and/or 2.) shouldnt there still be codes being sent to the computer with codes for left/front damper, right rear damper etc.? Looking at the RSS codes in the one link in the "how to pull codes" sticky it seems like the RSS codes are mostly broken down by each corner. But the only code i get is the I039 loss of RSS data, and there is not even a selection for RSS when pulling the codes.
