    2000 STS, Headlight lens

My headlight Lens' have become very dull and sandblasted from road grime. Is there any good way to restore or will they have to be replaced?
If replacement is necessary, where would I get them?

Either buy a headlight restoration kit, or wet sand (starting at ~600 grit, working up to ~2000 grit) and polish.

Either way, take your time. If you rush through it, they won't come out very well.

I've used the kit on my Suburban and Escort to remove the discoloration. It comes back pretty soon. The STS's lenses are pitted and scratched. I don't have the patience for the whole 3M process, I am taking mine to a place that does them and find out what they do to slow down the aging process.

HA! If a Pep Bots employee offers to do it for you, even for free, say no.

You don't even want to know what headlight assemblies for this series of Seville costs - if you can even find them -

www.gmpartsgiant.com - your year, car, model, system, subsystem - opens a text page. The "More Info" tab takes you to a parts diagram keyed to the text page.

My headlights were pretty bad - this work was done in 2009 with a 110V drill and the kit from www.customchemicalpkg.com (also available in some parts stores) - and some sweat and beer.......... Use masking tape around the edges !!!

    Re: 2000 STS, Headlight lens

To slow down the aging process you need to dilute some Spar urethane with mineral spirits (50/50) and apply it to the lens. Spar urethane has UV blockers as opposed to regular urethane. Come to think of it, spar urethane comes in spray cans. I suppose you could use that as well without diluting it.

One another note, I wonder if a clear coating them would work? Spray cans of clear cost can be had any place that sells auto paint in rattle cans like Dupli-Color.

I've been using wax on the headlights and taillights. It seems to preserve the plastic well.

Same here. When I wax it twice a year with my buffer I always hit the headlamp lenses. They still look new, but it IS garaged.

    Re: 2000 STS, Headlight lens

It won't last. I've tried everything on other cars and it always comes back. Mine are still in pretty good shape. For others I would recommend trying the 303 Aerospace spray. Maybe that will keep the sun from discoloring them. Kinda like wax I suppose but it was developed by nasa as a UV blocker. Some of you know what it is. Your thoughts?
