90 Eldo Cooling fan Not always working.

In AZ, temp outside was about 102.

Have a 1990 Eldorado 38,900 miles, and the cooling fan has started to not go on when the temp goes up. Yesterday was out and the A/C shut off engine over heating, temp went to 250, have seen it go as high as 230.

So came home, shut her down for a while to cool off, started her up let idle, A/C off, temp went to 230 and fan did not come on till I turned the A/C on.

    Temperamental temp sensor ?

Have to have the compressor replaced anyway, leaking freon and oil.

    TIA

One fan or both fans are working? There is one on each side of the radiator.

I got ripped off. Only have one. Does not seem to be enough room for 2.

So fans only work while A/C is running?

Ok, started her about 30 min ago, let her idle up to 225*, no fan's, turned the A/C on and only one fan came on, passenger side in front of rad. Is the driver side one suppose to stay on even when the car is shut off, when it is hot, like I hear others cars do? Temp did go up to 228*. then shut her down.
