which spark plug boots are required for STS 2001

I want to replace spark plugs and boots on my sts 2001 since car has about 110K miles and spark plugs are original. I looked at rockautos.com and found AC delco platinum spark plugs that i will buy. It has the following 2 types of boots (spark plug boots). Both have limited life time warranty but one is $3.12 and the other $5.02 each. My question is which one is required. Any idea about the cheaper one, will that work?

    ACDELCO Part # 12163650
    BOOT,SPLG WIRE
    $3.12 $24.96 Remove Part

    ACDELCO Part # 16004 {#88862521}
    BOOT KIT,SPLG 4 DOORS
    * Stocked in outlying warehouse--shipping delayed up to 1 business day
    $5.02 $40.16

    Thanks
    John

there is only one spark plug to consider -
    ACDelco 41-987 - RockAuto has them for $36.40 + $5.50 shipping -

    PLUS - there is a $12 rebate -
here is the form to fill out -
    http://www.acdelco.com/pdf/Spark%20P...ate%20form.pdf

there is absolutely nothing wrong with the ACDELCO 12163650 boots -
    $3.12 each + $5.55 - shipping = $30.51 - from rockauto -

Re: which spark plug boots are required for STS 2001

I am working on replacing spark plugs on my sts 2001. It seems that there are 8 nuts (10mm) to be removed on the front side of car to access the spark plugs. Once I remove these 8 screws, I believe there should be some T nuts. Does anyone know what is the size of these nuts so that I can get the tool to open these nuts.

    Thanks
    John

No T-nuts. Are you mistaking the spark plug connector boots (4 in each bank) for a T-nut ??? The black things in my picture ???? They're rubber insulated tubes with spring inner conductors - they link the cassette coil tower to the spark plug.

You'll need a long socket extension to get down past the right bank (rear) coil cassette to remove the two 10mm nuts that secure the AIR valve flex pipe flange to the exhaust manifold - DO NOT attempt to bend that steel "flex pipe".

Re: which spark plug boots are required for STS 2001

I have replaced spark plugs and boots with AC delco. The car STS 2001 feels a lot more powerful. The original spark plugs on car were from Denso. So could be these original from factory. I noticed that 3 cyliders (one on front and 2 on rear) had some oil in it. The oil quantity seemed like a tea spoon size. Is it normal to have oil there or does it indicate the end of engine life. The car runs great now. It was running ok before changing spark plugs. Any ideas about this oil leakage to spark plugs please?

    Thanks
    John

It's nothing more than a leaky O ring seal in the cam cover plug well.

Some oil in a plug well after all that time is fairly normal and expected. The cam (valve) covers wells are sealed with O-rings at the head surface. Over time those O-rings may weep - and there's a LOT of oil flying around inside those covers. Not to worry.

Our original plugs were DENSO - look in your owner's manual for the number and cross that with the DENSO part list - and the plugs you bought are also DENSO - under contract to GM/AC Delco. Notice the "Made in Japan" on the boxes ? Same plug.
