85 Eldo Telescopic wont tighten or lock
I replaced the worn steering wheel on my 1985 Eldorado Biarritz Convertible with a better one.
Seemed pretty simple until attempting to reinstall.
I aligned the wheel to the shaft replaced the spring and the rubber (hose) grommet then the telescopic lock assembly with the three bolts.
Now the wheel moves freely in and out no matter how tight I try to tighten the telescopic lock.
I have found exploded diagrams and all looks to be correct.
Can anyone help? Thanks

Re: 85 Eldo Telescopic wont tighten or lock
Remove the horn pad again then remove the 3 screws holding the lock lever and remove it. Now turn the threaded shaft by hand clockwise to lock the wheel. Then reinstall the lock lever and 3 screws in the middle of the slots with the lever to the right of the steering wheel slot. The lever only has to move a quarter inch left to release the shaft. You simply did not thread the shaft far enough into the column.

How many miles on your 85 eldo? I have one too. Mine has 58k. I love driving it! It turns so many heads both young and old. And mine has an awesome horn!!
