    97 STS AC/ over pressure?

My ac would work then not work. So I thought I would charge it with some Freon. I connected the bottle up but the system pressure was off scale high over 80 PSI. The compressor was not kicking on and off either. I am guessing because of the high pressure cut out switch being in.

I bleed the pressure down to 50 PSI then tried to get the compressor running again. The AC unit does not seem to be turning on.... The system will not take in any Freon when it is over pressure either. But over pressure is a sign of low coolant correct....?

My main concern now is the compressor is not turning on.

What are our ac codes? If compressor will not turn on, you have codes.

    ------------------------------
if the compressor is NOT running -
the pressure reading you are seeing is "static" pressure -
which means nothing - except there is SOME freon in the system -

the pressure readings that DO have meaning -
is when the compressor IS running -

IF the system is low - a trouble code should be set -
and that trouble code will disable the compressor - to protect it -

the code must be cleared before the compressor will work -
    --------------------
check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes -

if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

if you have any codes - post them here -
    ALONG WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS -

I seem to recall normal static pressure of about 70 psi. Your 80 might not be to far off, but like Bass said, that's irrelevant. With the compressor disabled you will NEVER get it to draw in refrigerant and the fact that you bled off refrigerant, most likely your are now in fact low.
