How to chrome it? Take it to a chrome shop.

If there's a rough surface you want smooth, they'll have to sand it.

    Re: Cadillac Seville Wheel finish

That entire surface - smooth spokes and pebbled surfaces - is already chromed. The pebble finish surfaces are painted. Remove the wheels from the car, get a couple of cans of paint remover from Home Depot, brush it on and carefully brush/wash off the loosened paint - one wheel at a time. No, you cannot sand out the pebble finish. One member used ??? an orange organic ??? product and had good results.

DO NOT even try this on a clearcoat polished wheel - original chrome only.

WAY back in the Appearance, Detailing forum there is a thread on this, maybe the pictures are still there. About 5 years ago.

Google something like "cadillac forums seville chrome wheel paint removal" or something close, always preceded by "cadillac forums ..........."

If you would like to spend about $1200 on your wheels, take a look at the HyperChrom Black process in www.wheelcollision.com . I have a set of 2003 CTS 7-spoke 17's that will get done when the spirit moves me.

This is what you need along with a paint brush.

    http://m.homedepot.com/p/Citristrip-...803T/100141801

Take your time applying it. And keep the waterhose nearby, afterwards use mothers chrome wheel polish

    Re: Cadillac Seville Wheel finish

Years ago, a forum member (Realtor something or another) did this repair and posted the entire process. He owned, I think, a 97 STS.
I did the repair on my 99 STS, and it worked great.
Realtor had suggested a product called Grafitti Remover ... I purchased it, along with some rubber gloves and abrasive pads.

I don't have a good closeup pic any longer, but this is the car with the wheels done.

    Ahhh, success.

Did a little searching, and here is the definitive thread on making your wheels 100% chrome. All it takes is some elbow grease.

I wonder why Cadillac decided to finish the back of the rims with that silver paint, instead of chroming the whole wheel? My Eldo has chrome surface and silver backing as well. When it gets dirty with brake dust, it's a bear to keep clean. I'd really like to find a set of late model DTS chrome wheels to put on, but they want a second mortgage for them.

I think it had to do with keeping the chrome from chipping by protecting the brake dust prone area's

    Re: Cadillac Seville Wheel finish

You cannot chrome only selective parts of a piece - the whole thing is electrically charged in the plating baths. The piece must actually look like chrome before any plating is done - the preparatory polish is critical. Then, depending on the base metal, successive coats of copper, nickel, and chrome are built up to the final finish.

In our wheels, only the outer part of the wheel/spokes are plated, face down in the baths. Because the areas between the spokes (the "pockets") is labor intensive to polish to a desired finish, my guess is that's the reason for the after-plating aluminum colored powdercoat - as well as design aesthetics.

The above is why a GOOD aftermarket chrome job on engine parts is expensive. Labor is the key. Harley-Davidson chrome work lasts forever. Taiwan chrome falls off tomorrow.
