How i know if the fuel pump is bad

Hi I have a 98 eldo and I was curious to know what exactly is wrong with my car. So I was driving around town when all of the sudden the car shuts off in the middle of the highway. I safely made it to a side street. I went to start it up as it was struggling and then it started but it sounded like it was going to die. Then 10 seconds later it dies completely I try to start up again as it wouldn't even start I had someone come look at it and they said it was the fuel regulator so I bought a new one and put it in I tried to start but failed to do so he realized tat there was no pressure coming out of the fuel line vavle. So what could this be or mean please help and please understand that I am not a car mechanic so I don't understand much lol. Thanks and hopefully you could help me out.

when you turn the key on you should here the pump running for a few seconds.
That still does not prove there is enough pressure for the motor to run.
best bet is to hook a fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve . turn the key on and read the pressure.

You should also check for set diagnostic codes

That means the fuel pump has moved on to greener pastures, R.I.P.

And the fuel pump involves a fuel tank drop unfortunately.
Also before anything, have you checked the fuses and the relay? So make sure the pump has power first, if it does then proceed with the replacement.
