    Possible cracked plenum?

Ok so yesterday it stalled out in traffic and ran really rough so I pulled codes P0300 engine misfire even read up and used a scan tool but it wouldnt give me the exact cylinders So I pulled the spark plugs
    And found this also

Between the corroded contacts and old plugs I figured that was it..... After I put in the new plugs it ran/drove fine for a few minutes but after that it went back to the P0300 ( I did the hold screw driver to each injector to your ear test and got a clickclickclick from each one) what I'm thinking is the new plugs burnt the extra fuel/air a cracked plenum would let in then couldn't keep up again?...... Also I have a burning plastic smell when the engine gets up to temp and starts stalling

    Any suggestions?

    A ripped plenum duct would set a P0171 & P0174 code.

Change the plugs and clean the contacts.

    Re: Possible cracked plenum?

The OP stated he DID change the plugs...Are the coil packs swappable on these? Can't rememeber if they are or not. I would take the car to a local parts store and have them scan it, hopefully their scanner can pick up which cylinder is misfring. Once you figure out which one it is you can narrow down your culprit.

If the coil packs are swappable I would swap them to see if the miss follows the coil pack or not...

    Re: Possible cracked plenum?

FIRST - can we correctly assume
you used the correct ACDelco plugs -
cleaned and inspected all the boots -
cleaned the terminals on the coil cassettes -

there are TOO many things it COULD be to list -

what would make diagnosing the problem much easier -
is to narrow down the cylinders to the one misfiring -

    try this -
engine running - in gear - feather the throttle
to INCREASE the effects of the misfire -

what we are trying to do - is AGGRAVATE the misfire -
so it will finally set off a flashing SES light -

at that point - the code for the specific cylinder misfiring should have set -
    P0301 - P0302 - P0303 - etc -

I suspect a faulty coil cassette - but which one?

I tried a scanner at oreilys and that thing couldn't tell anymore than the built in.... I'll try autozone later..... I did call a local wrecking yard 65$ for a tested pack ( cause I remember reading sub said they're pretty reliable to begin with so just get a used one) the plugs needed replaced regardless.... If it is the packs I sure hope its the front damn annoying air pump in the back

Edit: of course only 41-987 and I will try that thanks basscatt

    Re: Possible cracked plenum?

I installed used coil cassettes in my 2001 with no issues at all...no way was I spending what the dealer wanted for a new one...The front one is just as easy as changing a wiper blade, but yes, that rear one can be a PITA...We need to find out which cylinder is misfiring before we can go further though.

Weird didnt you just replace the tensioner for that belt the day we did my brakes or was that just the one for the water pump assembly?

Thanks Ranger, now I remember actually...The one I used for the front was black because I couldn't find a silver one to match the original one in my area...

And to the OP...Good to hear the coil fixed the issue! Got to love those cheap and easy fixes

Now occasionally the ses light will come on and I get a p0410 secondary air pump code.... It doesn't affect driving since its not cold out and the cat lights easy enough..... But why would this code come up all of the sudden would it be because I disconnected the air pump on the rear cassette pack when I did the spark plugs?
