Ok for my first question I have is, my car is making a popping rather a knocking noise if you would, but it's coming from
under my car towards the back more of the middle it only makes this noise after i'm done driving like once i park my car
and get out i can hear. I don't hear this noise while i'm driving. also the other question i had was, the other day i was driving i knew it was time for my brakes to be done, but instead i drove on them anyway, and i pressed on the brakes hard and one of my brake pads came out =/... yeah so any help would be appreciated guys please help on both questions
no it's not a ping ring noise it's literally a knocking noise like knock on a wall lightly or midely and that's what it sounds like it comes from the bottom of my car near the middle of it no where near the engine. or like a sligh popping knocking noise it's hard to explain. are you sure i'll have to replace the rotors and calipers lords knows i hope not that's going to be expensive can i get calipers from a junk yard?
Rotors, definitely, one is damaged from the pad backing plate, or caliper piston coming in contact with it. At VERY least, it will have to be turned, but that may not be possible. Both rotors have to be the same thickness, so there's no replacing or turning just one.
If you drove any distance after the pad fell out, the caliper piston is damaged, and it will have to be replaced.
There's nothing in the middle if the car that could cause the noise you're describing. You'd have to get under there and look.
I wouldn't recommend a caliper from a junk yard. Look up some part prices here: www.rockauto.com
I would HIGHLY recommend spending a little extra money for ceramic pads. They're better in every way except price, and pads aren't something you replace very often,
One pad fell out? And HOW did you see this? Bouncing down the highway? Laying in your driveway? Got a pic of this pad? Front or rear pad? Is it possible for pads to wiggle out? I think it would make a hell of a racket. I saw a junked car with the rotor separated from the hub. Still in place but clearly broke. Must have screeched like hell? I have also seen rotors worn thru down to ribs. Now that totally messed up

Re: 1997 STS questions
I can't imagine anything, anywhere on the car that would (could) "knock" after shutdown.
I agree with Stove & MC. Not sure how you spotted it, but if that's what happened I would be willing to bet the rotors are shot. Pads & rotor replacement for sure. Calipers are a possibility, but only an inspection will tell for sure.
I had a pad fall out before. Not because it was worn, one of the retainers failed. The car started shaking all of a sudden.I braked to pull over, and heard scraping from a rear wheel. Stopped, got out and looked, and the pad was laying inside the rim.
i'll do my best to try and record the sound but i heard the sound best when my car is stopped and i look under my car i can hear it.. If i put my ear on my hood i can't hear it. when i drive i can't hear it. but when i get on the ground and look under my car i can it comes from the middle back of the car, it makes a sound as if you was to knock on a wall the sound is similar or a popping sound... it's difficult to explain i do have a picture of the brake pad i will upload it and i'm a try to record the sound my car makes, also when i turn my air conditioner on in my car after a while it makes a noise like as if you were hunking the horn but it's a low pitch version
