    Chime Module not working?

Hello again everyone. I have watched videos on Youtube in the past and have read on forums about my 91 Eldorado having a chime module that chimes for various things such as when the turn signal is on, low on fuel, or when the keys are in the ignition and the door is open. My car only chimes if I turn the headlights on and open the car door. It chimes twice and quits. I think it used to chime when I turned the key to the on position but it doesn't do that anymore. I know most people think they are annoying but I like the sound of the chime. My questions are - Is the chime module located behind the glove box? - Can it be cleaned, tested, or replaced? I would really like to get this working again but I don't know if any of the 6 owners before me tampered with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is a separate chime for the turn signals, and an actual bell for door, light, and key warnings. The bell is somewhere behind the glove box, but I'm not sure exactly where.

Mine if very faint, but I attributed this to the passenger front speaker not working. Am I wrong?

Not sure if chimes are routed to the stereo speaker on your Deville. On Eldos and Sevilles of this era, I believe it's a separate unit. My mothers speakers worked in her '90 Seville, but the chime was sometimes faint, crackly, or didn't work.

The module is behind the glove box and is repairable. I had a 89 eldo and presume 91 would be the same. When a chime is called for an electric current raises a bar to strike the chime. The bar then goes back down on foam. What happens is foam breaks down and bar is too low for electric current to lift it. Build up bottom and it should work again - all else being ok.

    Re: Chime Module not working?

Thanks for the tips everybody. The chime box is definitely number 11 on Rangers diagram. I took out the glove box today (two screws were missing so someone else had to have been tampering in there) and I found the chime box where everybody said it would be. I had to leave right after removing the glove box and I didn't get any further. We will see what tomorrow brings for it though.
