My front end noises over the last year have been the bane of my existence. I have changed control arms, ball joints, intermediate shaft, end links, sway bar bushings, struts, strut mounts and bearings, one CV half shaft, front motor mount, cradle insulators, and tie rods. Everything up there with the exception of the wheel hubs are new (and those each have about 60K on them). I still get random clunks, pops, and weird steering feel.
I think my rack has been going bad and continues to warn me with all the various noises. I recently replaced my high pressure line and steering pump and I sometimes feel difficulty turning into parking spaces at low speeds. When I am parked with the engine running, I can turn the wheel just enough to not move the tires and when I do there I can make a pop noise. Sometimes turning a hard left bank it seems like my left tire is rubbing (it isn't). The steering is very, very loose and sometimes when braking it feels like there is a little bit of shake despite my brand new rotors and brakes all the way around. I also sometimes feel like there is some lateral body wobble without any feed back through the steering wheel.
So, do these sound like symptoms of a bad rack? I'm tempted to just order a re-man Delco unit but I am getting tired of throwing money at the same problem.
Have you taken it to a reputable alignment shop? If so, did they find anything? There's something to be had by letting experienced techs giving it a good physical inspection. We could armchair this but I doubt it would be helpful.
