Does the noise change with fan speed?

    If not:

Do both the passenger and drivers side vent temperature change when you adjust the controls?

Does air come out of the correct vents when you change the mode setting?

Re: 03 seville sls ac noise

YOU are the one who has to find the source of the sound -
then we can help to fix it -

just for kicks - check for codes -
if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...odes-dtcs.html

if you have any codes - post them here -
    ALONG WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS -
    -------------------------------

    lets try this -
we are going to "exercise" the blend doors - mode door - and recirculate door -
    and both blower motors -

the blend doors control the temperature
for driver and passenger sides -

the mode door controls WHERE the air blows from -
    floor - center - defrost -

the recirculate door works with the blend doors
to mix outside air with cabin air -

the blower motors move the air -

pay close attention to the clicking -
we need to know what makes the sound change -
    or go away -

with the engine running - AC ON -

turn the temp to 75 -
turn the passenger temp OFF -

    select the center vents -

put the fan on the lowest speed so you can hear things -
turn the rear blower OFF -

    IS IT STILL CLICKING?

SLOWLY increase the fan speed -
does the clicking change - if NO -
turn the fan back to low -
still the same sound? - continue -

turn the rear blower ON - and adjust the speeds -
any change to the clicking? - if NO - turn the rear blower OFF -

now lower the temp to 60 -
you should be able to hear various flaps in the dash moving -
the recirculate door will close - both mix doors will also move -
    did the clicking change?

turn the PASSENGER TEMP - ON -
adjust the passenger temp warmer -
you should hear just the passenger side mix door move -
did the clicking change - if NO turn the passenger temp OFF -

so far we have exercised both mix doors and the recirculate door -
and checked the blower motors -

next is the MODE door -

leave the temp and blower controls as they are -

then select the floor mode -
the center vents will close - and floor vent open -
    what happens with the clicking?

now select bi-level - this will give both floor and center vents -
note any change to the clicking -

now select defrost - any changes?

now back to center vents - what did you hear -

    -------------------
if after all the above you still can't pinpoint the sound -
and nothing above changed the sound -

    last thing -
you see a small 1 inch square grill to the left of the steering wheel -
put your ear close to it - is that the sourse?

Re: 03 seville sls ac noise

Thanks for response: In answer to your questions, The blend doors the vents , all work fine, blows cold air and controls are responsive, noise coming from engine compressor side only when compressor is on. All fan speeds ok. Floor modes and vents modes ok .Rear fan speed ok and working. First notice when ac comes on. believe its the compressor, the noise is outside of car not in side. What would trigger the clicking in the compressor, this sounds like the source. Maybe compressor going out , never been serviced. I will check out the other ideas you had and advise. Thanks, later

the noise is outside of car not in side
well - THAT eliminates a bunch of stuff -

noise coming from engine compressor side only when compressor is on -
    Maybe compressor going out

    that IS possible -

    never been serviced.
there is no "regular service" to be done -

    Re: 03 Seville A/C noise

Ok, Thanks .... I assume there is no way of correcting the problem without replacement. What kind of expense am I looking at to replace on 03 Seville and is new best or can used compressor solidify the problem if available. The soft clicking sound going on for about 3 months now, but we do not drive the car that much. My question is , and I know this
hypothetical , but how long before it goes out and can I expect a more aggressive noise level or warning ? Again your response is deeply appreciated. Thanks later

    Re: 03 Seville A/C noise

My compressor has been clicking all the time since day 1. I was concerned for the first few months - then I forgot about it since it still works to date. It does have a very VERY small leak - it leaks all freon over three years - so I never bothered finding the leak. When it all leaked out I checked the orifice tube - completely clean.

No one knows how long it'll take for it to completely fail, nor could tell if the clicking will get worse. Maybe check the orifice tube, and if it comes out clean, I would just run it.

Thanks for your return. Believe your on right track...I thought of repairing the problem, only because in the Arizona heat didn't want to get caught without Ac.but why not let it run its course . Perhaps it will go all summer along. Just wanted someone else to to testify to what I was thinking, so I thank you for that.

You members are very much appreciated for your expertise and does save time and $$ which is why this form was created in the first place
Kudos to the members for making this a success. If I have a problem with my Seville, which has been a great car, this is the first place where I can get answers
because I know you guys are very knowledgeable.about this car. I have owned 0ver 50 cars in my life time and this car has been the most reliable without question.

    Thank you
