For those of you who read regularly you may remember the laundry list of things I am working on fixing in my 98 Eldorado one of which was the fuel filler neck. I did not put the fuel filler neck high on my list, fixed a few other things first and never got to it. Earlier this week got a "check gas cap" message and kind of laughed because I new the fuel filler neck was bad (I'm thinking pinholes). Well today I went to get gas, started pumping and after 1.5 gallons I noticed the flood under the car. I must have hit a bump and the neck must have split in two or had some other type of massive failure, I have not looked yet. If I had put the gas pump in and went inside to get a soda I could have blew up the gas station. I just never even considered it would totally fail. If you have this problem take it SERIOUSLY.
Just ordered part number GM Part# 25644580 from Filler Neck Supply Company out of Spokane Wash. I'll let you know how it works out.
I caught a break, I am still shaken up by this (standing in a puddle of gas will get your attention). I could have set myself on fire, burned the car up (that might have been good, just kidding) and really caused some damage to others.
You get this problem, get it fixed right away, you life could depend on it
Filler neck arrived on time and it fit the car. It is plastic not metal but works and comes with a new cap but no hoses. The pipe had pinholes and a large hole right at the mounting bracket. The vent pipe also had a large hole. If you get stuck for this part the folks mentioned above can help, total was $109
